Think it depends where you go - greasy spoon and yeah £5.90 for poached egg on toast and a coffee (probably instant) is a bit much - more upmarket cafe with proper filter coffee or similar and fresh made crusty bread and free range eggs etc then £5.90 is pretty reasonable

I’ve not eaten them for ten years after a diagnosis of T2. The side effect is that body of mine and a permanent state of smug bitch. I’m carnivore these days and I can resist all those carbs because I see them as nutritionally damaging.

I’m also incredibly healthy and can call myself a diabetic in remission.

Well I know a great place where a large full Irish with toast, unlimited tea/coffee £4.75. You will be very lucky to find a free table when you walk in, have had to wait 20 mins before. Opens at 8.00 and closes at 4.00.

Nothing puking about it, and far better than any other in the town, not just on value.

Most of the cost of food is in the rental and then labour, so venue is more about cost than the product. Much like a bottle of water. Mostly transport, profit, packaging, then product.

Supermarkets, if they have retained their 'restaurants', tend to be nationally priced. Morrisons has a 'Big Daddy' 19-piece breakfast £6 including

three rashers of 100% British bacon

three 100% British pork sausages

three hash browns

two half slices of fried bread

two fried eggs

two half tomatoes

two black puddings

110g of baked beans

60g of sliced mushrooms - £6 until today. I wouldn't dream of eating - and there's no coffee included, which would add an extra £1.50 ish.

Asda has 2 eggs on toast £2 or 12 items £5

Tesco, Stockport - eggs on toast, £2.85

That's helped me to plan my next breakfast, including some options to avoid.

I read about that place........it’s actually a not for profit cafe who do not have set prices. They have an honesty box on the wall where people can put in whatever that can afford to pay. If they have no money they can still have breakfast. The payment of £20 was just something that one person decided to donate towards the costs of helping to feed those who cannot afford to feed themselves

How much would you charge someone for:

Buying the egg,bread, butter, coffee, water, milk (sugar). Plus your wage to make, serve and clean (including tax), gas/ electric to cook it. Plus rent for the premises to cook it in, seating if you sat in, insurance to operate, waste charge to get rid of the rubbish and business charge(old fashioned rates).

So, what would you be prepared to charge if it was your business?

Then again, if it's too much for your piggy bank for someone to cook for you, you could cook it yourself or go without.
