When I was growing up my mother told me I could be whatever I wanted to be. So I became an antisocial recluse with an intolerance for natural light

I wanted to be an archeologist as a child. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an alcoholic because: I liked alcohol a lot. I became, what is essentially, a librarian, I'm a total Rockstar!

I wanted to go out to Africa and catch wild animals to populate zoos.

Kind of glad my dream didn’t come true though. Might have been a big dangerous, and I can’t imagine the wi fi in the jungle is much cop.

There and to the left a bit

Was always the military for me, initially the Army and then the Navy - joined when I was 17, left within 3 months through sheer stupidity and have regretted the decision ever since

I wanted to be lots of things as a kid.

I wanted to be a farmer - didn't happen

I wanted to be an accountant - didn't happen

I wanted to be in the forces - did that for 11 years

I wanted to drive trucks - did that and now moved on to driving far bigger things.

Think that's me know, I like what I do. I doubt I'll ever get to be a farmer or accountant unless you class that as part of being a parent and managing a house hold?

Nah, I'm done with formal education and I'm too old and unfit for the RAF now. I'd be better off in the navy

On a mooch

A solider until I realised that I would be treated so differently than the men (cadet force we were equal) and would never be on the front line but a cook, driver, secretary instead

Then a policeman but my height went against me at that time, too short to even police the sheep in Snowdonia

If only I’d been born a boy

Newcastle upon Tyne

I don't remember ever thinking about what I wanted to be when I was a young child. Adulthood seemed impossibly far away. But given the fascination I had for computers from the moment I found they existed, it was inevitable they'd be involved.

In my late teens I wanted to design microprocessors. That never worked out. The engineering degree that was meant to lead to it never worked out either.
