Adds i only see them if subjected to a tv. I keep mine off.

My mum put one of these in place after my step-dad passed away suddenly and had to fork out £6000 for a funeral (back in 2012). Luckily the funeral directors were lovely and let her pay in increments, but she had to use credit cards to pay it off, which left her in debt (albeit briefly). It was an added stress at an already stressful time.

My mum knows i’m rubbish with money so put a plan in place for her so i don’t have to worry.

The issue I've seen so far on this thread, is some people who seem almost in denial they need one.

I was the same till about 18 months ago when the husband of a friend of mine died suddenly and his widow had no savings or money out aside for his funeral. She'd to rely on friends, family and others to fund his funeral and she's still paying back everyone she owes.

I'm Single, so would not necessarily have anyone around to pay for my funeral. Nor do I wish to have to be a financial "burden" on family at such a distressing time.

The plan I'm on guarantees that any cost increases between now and when I did, won't be passed onto my surviving relatives but not all Plans do that.

The main costs are Burial sites, where as land for such purposes is growing scarce, then prices are going up over the years to come. Many crematoriums are Council owned & they too are increasing costs year on year.

When my husband died I didn't have any money to pay for his funeral, because he refused to get insurance as he Said "nobody is going to profit from my death" and

"You are not spending my money with another man when I am dead"

I had to ask the funeral director (he was a friend of ours) to do the funeral and I would pay when I could.

I don't need a funeral plan though because I am insured for enough to cover the funeral and pay off my mortgage.

I too find the adds depressing x

While it's probably a good idea to plan for your funeral to take away the financial burden that might otherwise be left to your remaining loved ones, I still don't like the adverts. What annoys me most though are the cold calls I get regarding the subject. In the last 12 months I have had countless random calls asking if I have prepared for my funeral yet and how I "need" to do so. I hate cold calling at the best of times but understand that businesses get a turn from doing it, but to ring random strangers about funeral arrangements is in my eyes somewhat nefarious. With the tone of some of these guys talking over you at the start while they work through their "script", it can also seem a bit threatening.

Having just sorted my uncle's funeral I'd recommend getting your own organised/planned and prevent any arguments or doubts for relations.

The adverts I hate are the ones showing animals in distress and THEN ask for your money in your will!! Talk about ultimate guilt trip and then grave robbing before you're dead. As previous post says, target old folk who are weak to the advertising campaign

My mum passed away in April and thankfully she had paid and planned her funeral with the Coop.

A very basic funeral as my mum didn’t believe in wasting money. Still was £3000.

Money I wouldn’t have had as her house was sold to pay for your care home costs.

My issue is that you can do this stuff yourself without paying over the odds, because if those TV adverts are on rest assured it isn't because the companies involved are thinking of you & yours, adverts do not pay for themselves. Write a will, plan funeral at the same time, get it registered recognised or placed somewhere where it is only accessible on death & open a building society account to pay in your 'cup of coffee' plan per week & get interest rather than charges, jobs a good 'un. However the ads exist because we don't do this..

Pulling out of Lidl this morning there was a funeral going past with the old fashioned Victorian cart thingy horses with yellow feathers two blokes in the big hats the lot and I thought 'ha you mugs that must have cost a fortune' then saw the coffin was also yellow and about 2 feet long and felt an absolute sack of shit

Collection, basic casket & direct cremation (no service): £799

£100 for the family and friends to gather at some point in the future for a few bottles of wine.

The funeral business is a gigantic rip-off with charges increasing by 3 - 4% per annum.
