Is a wink lazy?

Just a thought, following the wink thread...

I know that they're not for everyone and they can be a way to register an interest but is it just lazy? It requires no thought and little to no effort. Are people so afraid of rejection that they won't string a few sentences together?

Manchester (she/her)

Lazy no, I recognise that the effort put in doesn't always translate to reward, but realistically it's sensible to prioritise more effort put in (messages).

The right place

They are a great way of making initial contact. They can lead to a lot more.

The majority of winks i get are from couples and men under 6ft... as I'm not looking for either, i ignore them

I always thought a wink meant "you're with me". More of an order than a request.

I thought women liked that kind of thing.

Whilst I know it means they may be interested, it kinda says that they don't deem me worthy of crafting a bespoke message. At least it's (barely) better than sending a friend request without any prior contact. That said, I am a needy fecker though

Harmless fun. An easy way to guage interest if you struggle with making a first move.

Many overthink the functions on the site.

That's how I see it. The vast majority of the messages that we've had have been from single guys, plenty of winks from couples, I just find that a little curious...

Some profiles say they appreciate a wink.

Mine does.

Just registering interest sometimes helps.

I think wink says in we're interested ... a wink back says so are we .. so the messaging starts ... just a good way of gauging mutual interest .. imo

Whenever I get a wink, I just wink back just to see what happens and no one follows it up with a message, so why the fuck are they bothering for. Do they expect you to message the lazy feckers ?

I don't message first but have "wink me" on my profile; this saves me a lot of faffing in the long run.

Long live the winkers (as a single guy, as a woman or couple I would probably just delete the feckers)

I agree.

Winks are underrated and often ignored. They have the best intentions but no one is expected to reciprocate.

I'd like to think of it as a gentleman doff'ing his hat to a lady as she walks by, an acknowledgement of her profile.

mis-types and auto corrects leads cock leeds

I don't send winks if a profile interests me enough to contact them I'll send a message I consider the couple of minutes a worthwhile investment of my time.

Are folk who wink lazy.. some probably others maybe and theres the group that aren't..

I prefer winks to random messages tbh and say this on my profile ... means I can check out their profile and choose to wink back if I would like to chat with a person. So much better and easier than all this complaining about rude and not personalised or spelled right messages!

But there again you can't please all people all of the time but no I don't think it's lazy at all, just a polite way of showing an interest

I don’t mind at all if someone winks me. Sometimes I just wink back depending who it is - I don’t expect any further conversation in this case though, as I’ve put the opening gambit back in their court. However, if I am really interested in talking to the person I message them. It has worked recently in establishing a very good conversation.

In short I don’t mind, but don’t use it as an approach myself, except specifically on a winking thread. One of my long term Fab friends came about though that route

If I get a wink I look at the profile of the person who sent it and if I like the look of them I'll say hello. The simple fact is that while I do try to make an effort with first messages (and usually do send messages rather than winks), if you're just not what the person is looking for then no message will do you any good, so if you wink and they ignore it it saves you the effort of writing a message that will be ignored. But if you wink and they wink back, then that should tell you to put some effort into that introduction

Thinking about this, I think whether a wink is likely to get a response depends entirely for me on how much detail the person's profile has. If your profile is pretty much empty - no pictures, almost no text - then it's unlikely I'll respond to a wink, whereas a nice and friendly message might prompt me to chat to someone with an empty profile. On the other hand, a wink leading to a profile with nice pictures and text that gives me an idea of whether I might like the person may well prompt an opening message from me.
