Is this sex discrimination?

They haven’t banned all female ones?

Just a thought!!

Are there any to ban?

It also says that any shoes commissioned in the future should be working towards a 50:50 gender balance so I guess that covers all female teams.

It's not discrimination: there are too many all-male teams and no all-female teams. It's fair to work towards 50-50.

Here's a rebellious thought ... why don't we forget about focusing on gender and find the best people for whatever role is needed, be it writing, acting or whatever?

If this rule had been bought in yrs ago

No only fools and horses

No dads army

Green green grass

Are you serious?

Why should good writers and friends be banned because they don’t have a woman amongst their team?

Exactly, so you’re interviewing and you have a guy hitting 99% and a gal hitting 80% but it’s an all guy team so far so you have to hire the gal.

Straight away you have a sub standard team plus a woman that will probably leave as she’ll feel inadequate when in the midst of things and a set of guys bailing out the ‘token’ weak link.

As yes I know women are as good as men so 80% is a disservice but I’ve seen it happen in the past, positive discrimination doesn’t help anyone.

Are they looking at all caucasian teams, or all able bodied teams.

I'm all for diversity, but not at the expense of true talent.

There was that recent ridiculous notion that gay roles in films or plays etc. Must be played by gay actors ... I don't remember Tolkien putting in the Lord of the Rings that Gandalf was partial to some bum action ...

Anyway .. rant over and it's not even Thursday!!

I think it's a good idea.

If they were only focused on talent, teams would already be more 50/50. Men aren't inherently better at writing.

Is this a knee jerk reaction, after the Jeremy Kyle fiasco?

No, I think it's a considered reaction to the fact that writing teams are top heavy with men

The Jeremy Kyle fiasco started in July 2005. Hardly a knee jerk reaction.

Only Fools and Horses (and I think the spin-off Green Green Grass) were written by John Sullivan, not a team, so presumably wouldn't have been caught.

It would make more sense to me if they went for 50/50 writing across the channel rather than get down to the micro level. Two men could write together as long as there were two women writing something else. An individual man could write but an individual woman would have to counter-balance it.

ITV seemed to ban comedy writing of any description decades ago.

Think French & Saunders did that a while ago...

It's good to see women not only playing football/cricket on the TV, but also commentating on it as well.

Personally, I don't think positive discrimination or trying to be all things to all men works.

Could you be a a bit clearer in what you are trying to say, as I don't really understand what you mean with that statement?
