Anyone else work with someone who is basically stealing a wage? My previous assistant who was proactive and hard working left at the beginning of the year and has been replaced by a girl who just sits on her phone doing nothing the vast majority of the time and huffs and tuts loudly whenever her work phone rings or she has to do something. I'm finding myself staying later and later on an evening to keep on top of the work whilst she is up and gone at exactly 17:00. I hate being the bad guy and I'm not her manager but I'm definitely going to have to have a word soon just my Monday rant!

I work on a team of 10 and about 4 of us don’t take the piss in anyway. The rest come and go as they please and do the absolute bare minimum. They are all part timers too so leave the two full timers to clear up their shit! Boils my piss.

Boils my piss....now that has made me chuckle. What a great phrase? May I borrow it?

It's getting infuriating, she sits opposite me and can clearly see how busy I am trying to answer two phones at once whilst trying to reply to emails at the same time but she obviously thinks doing five minutes work and then playing with her mobile for half an hour is ok. I'm off tomorrow and Wednesday and just know she won't have covered my workload properly and I'll be tearing my hair out on Thursday. I was giving her the benefit of the doubt as she's only been here a couple of months, but she knows what needs doing by now. My input will be part of her probation interview though...

Our manager is the worst at ours. He's constantly in bother over stupid avoidable things like having people on shift at the wrong times or being off the department. Don't think it matters if you're a manager or not. If it's not fair to you and you're carrying her I'd be saying something to her. Where we work we have a plan that managers are meant to go by to determine how much work should be done at one time by one member of staff. It doesn't work for exactly this reason. Sometimes it's down to personal capability and sometimes its because people are bone idle.

That's a point. Hopefully I don't.

If she's your assistant I would've had words by now. Doesn't have to be anything too severe but the longer it's allowed to go on, the more she'll do it. Some people are shameless in that respect.

She's clearly not assisting (clue's in the job title) & it's clearly having a detrimental effect on you.

Bet her review can't come soon enough for you! Good luck!

I think every workplace has a few people like that! I worked with a girl who would spend hours in the back on her phone and the rest of our team would get shit for not hitting targets. It used to drive me crazy.

Yeah, my manager is stealing a wage, I carry him on a daily basis correcting his mistakes, cleaning up issues he should deal with cover for him when he's at "meetings" and always uses the Royal "we" when he makes mistakes I don't catch, Yet if I make a mistake it's YOU'VE made a mistake sort it! Refuses to take responsibility for anything and always blames something or someone else, his nickname is Teflon he's that slippery! He's got a sixth sense for danger as well, always without fail manages not to be there when shit hits the fan! I can laugh about it but it's very frustrating to say the leased.

My previous boss was Teflon, moved to one side, failed to support me in a work situation... As in throw me under the bus without any question.. Now able to tell him what a snake he is, don't trust him, will never again trust him, was soo much fun.

Ah yes I've also in the past had a manager who takes the credit for all my hard work but is also quick to push the blame on me when something goes wrong, workplaces are always full of teflon people with sloping shoulders.

Used to sit next to a guy that would do a few laps of the office every half hour to have a chat. His reason ranged from repetitive eye strain or cramp in his legs. If he ever was at his desk he was usually chatting with someone around at the time or reclining. If a manager ever asked him what he was doing, he'd come back with "thinking" like it was a task of the day. One day he just didn't come in and everybody missed him like he'd been holding eveything down for two years. I tried it and managed a week before I was swamped. Amazing.
