My new boss is trying to add me to socialedia sites......

Ffs....I don't want him on there

1 my topic on conversation whilst it isn't work related isn't always in the company spirit

2 I don't want my boss to see what I am up to

3 I don't like him

I wonder if anyone else has this experiances

I used to have several regional managers as well as colleagues on mine, was interesting to see how many disappeared when I got suspended (proved innocent). Now new job don't add anyone who is even remotely work related

Thats one of the problems with the big social network sites

Im glad im not on any of em

They can cause more bad feeling and problems than anything i know

As in your case

Add him = keeping ya gob shut

Not adding him = risking pissing him off

Ya cant win xx

Oh God, speaking as a boss, there is no way I would want to know what my team members are up to outside of work! Just ignore the invite, seems weird to me lol

Im a supervisor and 3 months ago we got a mail saying where we were from because my workmate recognised my wifes tattoos..so had to confront and beg for it to remain a secret and thank god he appreciated the secrecy of this site..very few genuine people out there

Be careful, i would have two user ids on most sites Twitter and Facebook, this gets around problems with contravening some employers social media guidelines for work..

Ie a twitter post of "am going to speak to client X" would definitely break it

Be also careful of using four square to checkin to customer sites as we

Some customers have seen posts and terminated meetings based on this

However LinkedIn is a problem, you shouldnt put in customer references nut you can naturally put in previous employers

However a few court rulings have made the LinkedIn profile actually your employers property.. I am still trying to understand why!

Facebook regularly suggests friends of friends that I know only through swinging. This is because I've added just one friend who is no longer in the scene but she isn't as private with her friends list, so some of her friends are mutal friends we both know through swinging. I now only add close friends and family on facebook and don't use twitter at all.

As for bosses, I'm not in the line of work where a boss would want to be a friend on facebook, and even if I was I'd ignore the request until he mentioned it and then I'd tell him that facebook is for private, not work.

I only have workmates/ colleagues that I either work closely or socialise with (where we are all as bad as each other lol). If a boss every tried to add me I would just ignore it and decline.

The place for bosses/ management to as for that kind of thing is the site called Linkedin the professional site where its more work related and certainly not a window into your personal social life.

it was for that very reason I never attended any of the works' Xmas parties. When I finish work on a Friday afternoon they can sod off till 9am Monday morning.

If i worked i would use google+ the circles are ideal for this.

i have a great variety of people on my facebook, swinging and bdsm friends, Sir, my mother ,my pastor to name but a few. i have a strict pg13 rule, mainly because people children can see updates ect.

It also keeps it safe for me, if you are saying inappropriate things on the web it could backfire anyway,whether the boss adds you or not.

You could of course add him, and use the privacy settings to only share incredibly dull stuff with him.

I used to go to xmas doo, but frankly they all end the same way, so became an unsociable bastard and always on holiday or busy when it comes round haha. Only socialise with the small group that go out regular on Friday nights and thats it."
I think people should have that choice and not be frowned upon - I was married to a serviceman for years and we attended some but not all functions, I had a busy job and could not attend as I was travelling a lot and it WAS frowned upon. Your private life is exactly that - private and you should do what you want to do

Yeah I endorsed the pg13 rule too, in fact I don't add anyone under 20, but in fairness its only a few second cousins and don't know each other so probably wouldn't add anyways

Tell him point blank you feel uncomfortable at him wanting to add you and you would prefer to keep your social side separate from work. It's not an unreasonable request.

I have some management on my Facebook profile but as I only really use it to keep in touch with family, especially as my son moved away, and friends I made from another site, I don't use it like some people do and therefore its no big deal. I probably use this site more than Facebook therefore I can talk about work all I like and no-one will know

I have two rules for adding friends to FaceBook.

1) Family, if they ask

2) Friends are people who I would go for a drink with.

I don't care if we were at school together, know the same people, work in the same building etc. If the person isn't willing to spend real time with me, why should I care what they are posting.

Because of rule one, my FB page is very vanilla. I only use it for sharing photos generally.

Whatever you dont dont ever let work get mixed up with any social media site.

I got done because i was looking forward to going home and posting along those lines. Bearing in mind we were allowed access to fb etc as we worked in an enviroment that could be slow at times.

Never realised working 12 hour shifts and looking forward to going home after 10 hours was a 'misconduct' offence lol.

On Facetube a few years ago I accepted a colleague who I valued as a friend. It then slowly became common to receive invites by others some of which were friends, some people i'd say hi to and then those who were just people within the business.

It was alarming that between them all there were junior,middle and senior management amongst their 'friends' so I basically deleted them all and ignored sometimes regular invites by the very same people. Friends I explained to that in fairness we have one anothers mobile numbers and some messenger details and of course we chat regularly on a daily basis.

I use the site almost like a diary, a stampbook and a means of keeping contact with true friends of old without the need of being on the blower.

Obviously the privacy setting can keep a lid on your personal stuff and pics but it just seems easier to seperate work from social life.

The last thing I wanted was inundating with requests from the shitlickers and fishwives from the place and any of them commenting on my happenings out of work just to have something to talk about.

Tell him you hardly use it and it's for friends you don,t see as often as those that your able to during working hours.

Personally i'd utilise the diplomatic option of a polite feck off

It's more trouble than it's worth.
