Chips - a rant about chips

I was in a restaurant last night and ordered a steak with chips. In my opinion that is an order you can’t really fuck. A plate with steak and chips on it right? Maybe a sauce if that’s your preference.

I got the steak but since but I can only describe the chips as JENGA Chips. 9 fat, hard, undercooked chips in a stack just like Jenga. That’s one potato and a bit of meat for £25.

I’ll opt for a Harverster next time.

Does anyone actually like JENGA chips?

In my experience very few pubs or restaurants serve proper chips. If they were to up their game and serve proper, freshly fried chips then I’m sure people would be much happier.

Most seem to serve either fries which aren’t chips or what are advertised as “triple cooked chips” which are actually anything but that and are frozen for convenience.

Bring back proper chips!

Having badly cooked chips is very disappointing! I also have a big bear about food being served on a piece of wood or a roof slate !

It's pretty rare in a pub/restaurant to get actual fresh handmade chips. And they make such a difference. I guess they can't be bothered to peel and chop etc.

My bug bear is putting everything on the plate/slate/board in separate tiny little dishes!

They can't be arsed to make fresh chips but don't mind washing up 7 items of crockery per person per meal?!?!

Sometimes they come in a neat individual frying basket. In fact it seems dam hard these days to get anything served on a normal restaurant plate. A slate, a block of wood, a paint pot, a metal camping dish, a roll of wall paper, every dam thing bar (God forbid a normal plate). And also why is it so uncool to call a Resturant and Resturant these days? You can call it a canteen, eatery, food and mood, eating house, kitchen but never a Resturant any more.

I’ll expand the debate ...straight or crinkle cut? I always fall with crinkle cut. It’s all to do with surface area don’t cha know ....
