I used to work from home as a web developer at that time and my clients were all City of London financial institutions. One of them was Cantor Fitzgerald who lost 25 people that awful day. I knew some of them.

Working in the office till I got an email to log in to CNN and its was shocking. I remember after 50 mins the whole broadband system in Sheffield was running at a snails pace as more and more logged in.

I think today is a day to remember innocent people are the ones who get hurt when men go to war.

I was in work when we heard it on the news, logged onto CNN, then rang my wife cause her Uncle worked at the Marriott there, after nearly 8 hours we got a phone call from her dad to say he was safe.... one of the few lucky ones, on visiting New York recently a made a point of not going to ground zero, still haunts me to this day so many lives lost and for what?

on the train from Norwich to London when K phoned me (she worked for the local newspaper group at the time) then within seconds all the mobiles were going off. By the time I reached London the rumours were such that people were saying London was being evacuated and that we shouldn't leave the train! What a load of rubbish I was on my way to meet with a government minister that evening and everything went ahead as planned. have to say I have never seen so many people standing outside shops watching televisions though. As for panic? I didn't see any at all except for a few idiots on the train.

On holiday in France, and no where near a TV. Hearing it on radio, and bits and pieces from locals, I just assumed it was being exagerated, until I went into town that night and saw it on TV.

Never forget it, working in Leeds when my mate who had radio on told me a plane had just flown in to one of the twin towers. I remmeber that at first we stupidly thought now thats massive pilot error. Then the full horror unfolded, the shock and the despair of that tragic awful day is staggering.

I too was in France and knew nothing of it till the following day when travelling to town to buy bread and heard Teryy Wogan talking about 'yesterdays tragic events'. I was oblivious to it for such a long time and to this day I have never seen footage of the actual events. That week my life took it's own tragic turn, not as devastating as the number of lives lost that day. But just as tragic to me.

I had a day off and was glued to the telly all day, couldnt believe what I was seeing but couldnt switch it off. Its was my Dad's birthday too and no-one phoned him to say happy birthday.

BTW Happy Birthday Dad.....really really hope you never see this lol

An Epitaph Named Why?

Who can count the number that have died?

Who can name the girl who's broken doll lies,

Among all the debris, among all the dust.

Who can catch the woman that was falling,

From the umpteenth floor silently calling,

To her watching husband - "Don't forget me!"

Who can imagine the horror of seeing,

A doom approaching, no point in fleeing.

Where will I run to, where will I hide?

Who ever thought of this unthinkable nightmare?

In rescue we came, but in death we left there.

We died for our jobs and for our country.

Who can I turn to in my desolate grief?

When there are no bodies, where to lay my wreath?

Bewilderment and confusion - my left and right.

What can my leaders say when words have no depth?

The only democracy is the democracy of death,

Let peace and freedom come and claim me.

sitting marking dissertations at home and when i looked up and saw second plane hit thought i had sat on the remote and accidental changed to a disaster movie as the sound was low ...

i was working in a warehouse that had no radio when one of the drivers came in and said a plane had hit a tower we all told him to f*ck off thought he was trying to wind us up then he put the radio on and there were 11 of us cramed in to the cab of wagon listening when the 2nd plane hit..... and still to this day i havent seen the planes hit never watched it

I was working building McLarens new Formula 1 headquarters in Woking marking out steelwork for the new roof on the Visitor Learning Centre. We had a 800t crane on costing thousands to hire, I was also setting out a new walkway to Ron Dennis' office. We had a tolerance of 5mm over the 100m long suspended structure. The project started at £200m and nearly doubled in value by the end. It was an architectural masterpiece. i was there on and off for 6 months and was the best project I worked on in 13 years as an Engineering Surveyor.

And my main memory of the place in all the time is my assistant getting a text off his girlfriend that there had been a plane crash in New York.

i was in the ICU of our local hospital with one of our guys who'd not come out of a seizure. A very surreal day as we had the news unfolding in snippets of information from visitors and staff.

i remember getting home at 8.30 and watching the endless replays of the few bits of footage of planes hitting the towers, which they'd put to music by then, and just feelin totally overwhlemed and angry at how crappy the world was on a big scale and a small scale. xx

We saw it on tv and couldn't believe our eyes ... it's the same when we see footage of the aberfan disaster (although that wasn't terrorism) .... all those children suffocated under that horrible sludge, we don't live too far from there and have visited the cemetary, it's heartbreaking!

I called my partner at work to come home and be with me to watch it, I had an unreasonable fear of losing him for some unknown reason. I'm glad he made it home then...may he too rest in peace xxx

it was my day off from work. window cleaner came into change his bucket and the news came on. he was still sitting there when the second plane flew into the other tower. unbelievable.

i too have visited ground zero. was there at xmas, they are busy building there now but our train used to come thru from jersey there. not alot to see but you just are able to sense it.

very tragic

did anyone watch united 93 on sunday night about the plane where the passengers took over, albeit it too late. so very moving

was at work in erith oil works, and the security gate had a tv and word slowly spread around site and we all ended up in there watching a little tv in stunned silence. it will be a day i will not forget

i was in my sisters house when the news came on!!! couldnt believe what i saw!!!

so very tragic and so many innocent lives lost!!!!

still get goosebumps thinking of it.

my cousin was out there on honey moon, she was ment to get that flight but hers got delayed to the next day!!

thank goodness as she wouldnt be here today xxx

proof that us swingers are just normal people with great hearts ....i was at work when my daughter (a very new mum ) called in in total disbelief because she was watching what was going on..she thought it was just a horrific accident but when the second plane hit we both knew it wasnt ill never forget how frightened she was and the panic in her voice. Like everyone else your t houghts go out to all the victims and their families and the poor emergency services...how do you ever get over that ???

I was at work, merchandising in a Kiwk Save store and a 'friend' of mine, who works in a cable and satalite supply place, of course they have Sky News on all day, he saw the first reports and phoned me straight away, we were still on the phone talking when the 2nd tower was hit...

I couldnt stop watching the TV for the rest of the day.

Even today watching what happened that awful day, I still get upset..

I cant begin to understand how those ppl who lost loved ones that day are feeling..

I had gone to see my friend at work that morning and popped out to the shop, i heard it on the news there for the first time but it was only "lighthearted" one plane had hit and "maybe" a couple of casualties. By the time id gotten back to her the second plane had hit and the full damage was becoming apparent

A world of my own

I turned the TV on that morning and caught the news just after the first plane hit and thought it was a tragic accident but when the second hit, I was stunned and bewildered until it all became clear it was a terrorist attack. I was, as most people, glued to the TV all that day. Unbelievable.

I can't believe its 8 years since it happened. Thoughts and prayers are with everyone who lost someone that day.
