Sexual health is an important part of our over all health. It means the absence of disease, infection, supposedly the ability to control fertility and to have children.

How active are you in making sure you stay healthy sexually?

Regular testing as and when. I'm not overly active and use condoms but it's still important. Currently every six months due to not changing partners.

Previously every three months (as directed by my gum clinic) more regularly if I felt the need

When I was regularly playing with other people, every 90 days.

Now, as and when. I haven't been tested for a while, but I've also not played with anyone but my OH since before the last time I was tested.

I've always been super conscious of my sexuality health and always got tested regularly! Can't understand why anyone wouldn't.

Indeed, I've had coldsores since 6 years old, ruined one or two school photos! Although I have noticed that I don't seem to suffer as much in the last several years

I used to get tested every 6weeks.

Although to be honest every 12 weeks is plenty. However I haven't been tested since April but I only play with my fwb so I have no plans to be retested at present

I'd respectfully suggest you educate yourself about STIs for one - and get a reality check for another - whilst "swingers" are considered a high risk group, as threads like this show most are also responsible about their sexual health and get checked regularly - unlike some of those "in town" or on dating apps who are probably just as unaware of the risks as you appear to be.

Simple fact of the matter is the risk can be minimised quite significantly with not only practicing safe sex, but also getting tested regularly and having open and honest conversations with partners about how they approach their sexual health.

Without liking to sound like I'm picking on you, you spend a lot of time on threads bemoaning your "luck" on here - well with the greatest of respect do you really think naive, and actually quite insulting comments like the one you have made here are going to see a change in that "luck"?

it never fails to surprise me how ignorant some can be. They hear the word herpes and instantly think "STI".

I know I shouldn't be but I'm always shocked at how ill informed people on a sex site are about sexual health. It's very worrying

Always take care of your own health, which indirectly helps take care of others too.

The general level of responsibility, education and sexual health here and in the swinging world is remarkably high. If you educate yourself and take full responsibility, including frequent tests, you have nothing to worry about.

I've just been discussing this subject with my FWB. I've only been with him in the last 6-7 months.

Using condoms, tested 3 times in last 12 months (all clear).

There are many risks to sexual health not just from penetration but some risks are lower.

Sexual health is something I do worry about.

Seeing people in clubs who only just met and having bb sex concerns me, that's their choice but I won't then play with them, I cut that risk out.

I go monthly. Although last month I ended up getting tested twice in 2 weeks just because the clinic came to the attic and I was getting people to go in... and couldn't very well then not get re tested myself.

I use condoms for full sex and not for oral. I don't do anal sex. I always get throat swabs as well x

HSV2 is an STI

I had a HSV1 (the non sti variant) infection in my eyes about 10 years ago - one of the most painful experiences of my entire life.

The eye specialist was stumped for a week (very rare to get it both eyes at the same time apparently) and sent me to get tested for chlamidia as apparently that can infect your eyes too.

Strange how they all differ, my clinic don't routinely do it and that was her explanation. I'd read on a thread about people getting throat swabs every time so I asked for it as it had never been offered even after admitting numbers of oral occasions.

mine don't routinely offer unless you go to certain sessions. But due to the sheer number of partners I have orally per month it is essential for me.

They were offering everyone throat swabs... so I don't know x as not she they would offer separate and therefore more expensive if not needed

I’m unsure as to refusing to be part of the problem.... how does that work? If you contract something you treat it at your own expense then rule yourself out of potentially infecting others until clear however long, if ever, that is?

I'm being perfectly serious - you didn't specify the number of men in the pictures you were referring to, hence the first question. Either way how do you know whether those people take responsibility for their sexual health or not - they may only play bareback with regular and trusted partners, they may get tested every week for all you know, or perhaps they have weighed up the risks and decided they're acceptable

Yes there are some who are naive and ignorant about STIs but through open and honest communication and having your own knowledge of the risks involved it's easy to avoid those that are like that.

The point is it's pointless worrying about others sexual health, other than checking how they view it and making a judgement call based on how they respond - the key is taking responsibility for your own sexual health, and ensuring not only are you checked regularly, but that you educate yourself about STIs enough to be aware of the risks and make your own decisions as to what is acceptable.

One of the highest risk groups are the under 25s who go out "on the town" and pull, which from your earlier statement is where you think would be safer meeting someone than meeting a swinger...think again!!

I totally agree with that to be fair but I think it’s wise to choose how you say things or perhaps not say anything at all. I’ve learnt not to type what I actually think as much on here as it’s not worth the hassle. There's no definite answer here, I'd suggest get checked with each new partner is the safest. Im not much of a swinger, I don't shag very often and when I do I'm usually in an exclusive arrangement, but I still stick to the above rule, for my own peace of mind and also in order to take care for anyone I'm with.

Sometimes on here though I do feel like getting tested just from opening up our inbox. We don't even meet but we blocked one creepy dude seeking bareback recently, and then the next week he's back on a new profile perving on us again saying the same old shit

There aredifferent folks on here with varying ideas on responsibility but I guess you pick and choose the ppl you interact with and it's down to personal preference....

so because one lady said so and one video showed it it must be true... a guy who doesn't change condoms in between wouldnt get far in any event I've been to...as the other attendees would say something or the person watching out for you .. if I didn't spot it myself.

And most people don't do bareback in clubs...

Ironically..I had a gg friend who never caught anything till she gave up swinging and got with a partner... then caught something from him.

And in my experience your average person on the street may never have been tested despite sexual encounters... so to me that's more of a risk.

There’s an NHS organisation called ‘Umbrella’ in the Bham area where you request a free test kit that comes in the post, you then send off urine and blood samples and about 2 weeks later you get a text giving you the results. When I was active I would do this about every 3 months.

Simple fact of the matter though is that using condoms AND regular testing AND being informed about STIs and the related risks of catching them and making informed decisions is the ONLY responsible thing to do when it comes to protecting your sexual health
