This isn’t as much fun as it sounds, it’s when (get this) *deep breath* a woman, puts her handbag on an empty seat on public transport, I know right! Has feminism gone to far, or hasn’t it gone far enough? Did this cause Brexit ? So what’s your view on women who do this, are they as bad as men who give their balls more room than they need, or should every women have the right to put her designer handbag on an empty seat in a packed train ?!

Seen in far off places

Depends on the quality and design of the handbag

A nice Balenciaga or Hermes for example - yeah, the seat is yours...

I'm guilty of sitting at a four seat table in cafes and putting my coat on one chair and my shopping on the others. I try to ensure that elderly or infirm people and families are made to squeeze round smaller tables as I feel it boosts my sense of importance and obviously my shopping and coat take precedence over these people.

I don't think it's anything to do with feminism. It's lack of consideration. Anybody can exhibit that.

I once asked a lady if I could sit down on a train seat when her bag was there. She moved it and I sat. Then she had a go at me for not saying thank you. My view is it wasn't supposed to be there in the first place! She should have been more considerate in a full train. Bloody cheek. As if her bag had bought a ticket.

No, if you read it’s about handbags on public transport and how they should have their own seat and travel in comfort.

No one knows what they carry in their handbags though, government secrets or weaponised uranium would probably warrant a full seat on its own.

As someone with anxiety where at all possible I do this!! Only because I don't want people next to me or to sit on the inside seat as I feel trapped! At the cinema I sit in the last seat. I need as escape route. I will move my bag if the train is full!

I also seem to be weirdo magnet so I'll have the d*unk at 12 noon man sat next to me on the bus or the crazy people. When I've just done a 24 hour shift and I want quiet haha

I travel on buses/trains and its not just women who put bags on seats. Men do it too with backpacks ect. It is okay to do so as long as you move the bag if the seat is needed. xxx

I love it when i see a bag on a spare seat... doesnt matter if it belongs to a male or female. I will always ask... 'is anyone sitting here?' And then get them to move it and plonk myself down... works particularly well when there are loads and loads of spare seats.

OP you make me smile

I used to do this when i sat on a bus, usually because my bag was so ruddy heavy. I’d move it when someone got on and silently pray they didn’t sit by me.

They usually did

These days it’s my hips that tend to spread a bit. And my shoulders. I’m a big old gal.

Not that I use the bus or train very often but I usually stick my bag on my lap.

What gets me are the people on the bus that sit on the outside seat and put their bag on the inside. Thus saying I don’t want anyone sitting next to me if I can help it.

Ill deliberately go out of my way to sit there then. And smile at them when they move. The best way to deal with rudeness is with a smile. Lets em know just what a git they are.
