Road kill

couple, us we him her.

Has anyone else noticed an increase of the amount of animals dead in the road?

Recently I have really noticed far more dead animals in the roads mainly Badgers and squirrels.

And another question how many people stop and put dead animals on the roadside grass.

Because apart from busy roads there always seems to be a kind hearted person who is willing to shift the animal from the road.

I understand that it's mainly due to expansion of human presence into their habits, but they seem almost suicidal at times, especially squirrels!

Yes!! I was thinking this the other day there’s definitely more.

Maybe the roads are too busy for people to remove them anymore. A Pest Control guy told me years ago he would use roadkill as bait to catch animals like foxes.

Farmers are no longer allowed to put poison down to kill the likes of badgers, rabbits etc so the wildlife is flourishing. It's the main reason for the rise in birds of prey numbers as well. They used to eat the poisoned carcasses of the rabbits then die themselves

It's that time of year when the animal population has increased considerably and so one sees increased road kill too.

Yep, around here Red Kites are more common than crows and there seems to be a lot more Buzzards than there used to be.

London

When the toads come out in North Norfolk they have toadwatch-roadwatch to try and save as many as possible from being squidged. It’s carnage up there.

Not only have I seen more roadkill I’ve actually hit several pigeons in the last few months (no I wasn’t aiming for them)

I remember the time when my dad was driving a cat ran out in front of the front of car, sister started screaming I looked out the back window and all you could see was the cat flattened with its paw stuck up looked like it was waving .....

But yeah pigeons as of lately have been suicidal... Must of hit about 10-15 of them in the space of 4 months ... For some reason they just like flying in front of the car.

a few years ago I was camping in the Lake District and was driving just after it got dark and 2 deer ran across the road in front of me. I only just missed them. Really shook me up. I was in a landrover but I’d have probably written it off if I’d hit them.

That's not even remotely funny, that's horrible.
