"I think its disgraceful they want to charge the over 75s. They know they're an easy target and can be bullied into paying. And as the population gets older, kerching! there's more money to be made from making them pay. "

"Is it time to scrap the TV licence fee and be able to opt out of the BBC x" it might even be worth it if BBC had anything half decent to watch . Dont think I've watched anything on BBC for years

"Is it time to scrap the TV licence fee and be able to opt out of the BBC x" Yes. Although I'd opt back in on a subscription fee. They do a lot of stuff I like to watch - and, on radio, to listen to.

"A lot of people forget that the BBC does an enormous service to the commercial stations. Because the BBC is not reliant on ad revenue and a profit motive, it can take greater risks with new tecnologies - effectively test bedding them on behalf of the commercial stations and providing them with a business case to make a safe investment. It's no surprise that it was the BBC who were way ahead of the curve in pioneering web based services and content like catch up services through iPlayer well before the commercial stations got on board in any major way. If it hadn't been for them we might still be waiting " This is true, but things change and they haven't. Even when with all the new technologies they experiment, its all paid for from the pockets of the public. That's an endless supply of cash they can do what they want with with no fear of going broke. If the public want to pay for a licence that's fine, but there should be a choice to opt out. However as it stands they don't give us a choice so they threaten everyone with heavy fines or police acton. BBC Bollocks.

"The BBC are a bunch of crap. Sure, they produce a few good programmes but on an income of £5B a year you'd expect that, wouldn't you? And they are so PC and dumbed down. Scrap the license and let them compete." But do they make any decent programmes any more. A lot of their content is actually bought in from independent studios. Remember the outrage when Bake off went to Channel 4 and how could it leave the BBC. Well the simple truth was it was not the BBC to keep it was made by an independent company and C4 offered more money for it. Even the latest blockbuster "Killing Eve" is not 100% BBC as it was commissioned by BBC America for the American market first.

"I'm not a full-time resident in the UK and I've only recently found out about the BBC licence fee. I was shocked. I've lived in a fair few countries around the world and have never come across a legally enforceable tax to pay for an entertainment TV channel before - it just seems totally bonkers! BBC news always seems horribly biased and the programmes aren't particularly great either. It's a weird system forcing people to pay for it when there are so many other channels available. The only benefit seems to be no adverts, but if you need a pee or want a cup of tea, you miss some of the programme so no adverts doesn't seem much of a bonus when you're obliged by law to pay for it. " So true!!
