Funeral attire

on the road to nowhere in particular

I attended a funeral today where the request was to “dress casually”

It got me thinking about how I would want people to dress at my funeral. I was thinking of men dressing as in black suits a la Reservoir Dogs and the women dressing in a slutty goth style.

What are all your thoughts

Under the Duvet

I'd like everybody to be wearing the most ridiculous hats they could find in their local charity shops.

Or all the women to wear false beards.

I want laughing, not crying at my funeral.

Hiding in the shadows

No one is allowed to wear black at mine.

I want bright colours, and glitter, there has to be glitter & sequins

There is a lot of controversy over what you should wear but if the person requests something or you know what they would have liked then I don’t see a problem.

For my best friends funeral it was ‘like a charity shop threw up on you’ kind of request!

East/West Mids

I attended a funeral last Wednesday. Highest FM heels. Six strap and tailored stockings. No knickers.

Unsure why but hey, it made the day a little easier

One request today wasn’t carried out. The deceased wanted his coffin carried out to “another one bites the dust”

They played “all right now” instead

I want full mourning please. Men in black suits, women in the chicest of black dresses with heels and veiled hats. Hearse drawn by four plumed, black horses.

Oh and the jealous lover who shoots me on discovering me aged 96 in the arms of another man will share chief mourning duties with that man

I don't want a funeral, I want a fancy dress party where everyone is laughing hysterically yet stupidly uncomfortable at the same time.

I want to hear them thinking "I can't believe I'm doing this, she's such a bitch"

Years ago, a close friend of mine had the following planned for her funeral and it ended like this...

She was a fan of Disney's Tigger, so the hearse and funeral cars had Orange tiger style stripes on top of the black colour.

Everyone had to wear an orange item of clothing, better still, turn up in Disney fancy dress if possible?

The funeral director & his pall bearers had to be in bright clothing, the flowers were to be multi coloured and instead of monetary contributions, mourners were asked to buy toys for the local hospital's children's ward.

It was a great day and a superb way to send her on her way!!

I'd be happy for people to dress in whatever they felt comfortable wearing.

Yes, me too Lorna, can't see a big deal in it personally.

I like the idea of themed funerals. Been to one where everyone wore a certain colour at the request of the family.

I don't care what people wear, I don't even care if I get a funeral service... I've left the building and embarking on whatever jounary lies beyond. I only ask that my shell is left to nourish the earth.... Seems so many are absorbed with the wrapper, its best to concentrate on the toffee beneath

No funeral for me thanks. Friends and family can have a drink down the pub if they want. I want an unattended cremation... too much money and fuss... meh

People can wear whatever they like, as shorter service as possible and I'd like everyone to have a party after
