Everyone puts their best foot forward online and some take it too far with 20 year old pics or just someone else's pictures, few are brazen enough to actually meet and try to get away with it. Anyone been catfished? I have but not on here.

I also had my Facebook profile picture stolen and used! It’s so creepy when it happens.

I always get stroppy replies when I ask for a clear or up to date face pic. Find so many have sunglasses on and load from 2013 (or years ago).

I haven't been cat fished on here but like to be extra safe and do ask for more pic on other platforms before meeting

Turns out it was his son who was working away and had been sending his dad pics home which he was then using.

I was in a swinging marraige 18 years ago, I did most of the the footwork and my wife just gave green light to social after seeing pic

I was always suspicious of pictures of partners separately and never together, though we cams weren't the best back then and getting a picture onto a computer with a scanner and dial up was a chore, that's if you were brave enough to get nudie pics developed at boots because digital cameras just weren't affordable

Story in the press today about a woman who arranged to meet a guy, 4 turned up in the car she was told to look out for & not the guy whose photos she's received. Her main moan in the story is that the Police have done nothing about it!

Meeting anyone online is a risk. She did it in a car park at night. Not sure that was the most sensible of choices!

The google reverse imaging is a godsend.

I was recently catfished. He got me big time. We had chatted for ages and we really got on. He was funny and, stupid me, didn't reverse image his pics. I met him in a pub. I sat there and instead of a tall dark and handsome mid 30s guy saying Hi to me was a red headed Viking, long beard, late 20s pale skinned bare faced liar.

I was so shocked I sat in silence listening to his never ending chat. When I actually got a word in and told him what he had done was wrong, he laughed and said that we'd now met so it didn't matter and when we're we getting naked!

I blocked and reported but his profile is still active and he will do it again.

It really has put a stop to me meeting since.

I've had a few attempts made but they fail pretty quickly - though I view catfishing as long term deceit, where a deeper relationship forms, despite never meeting. I've had some men wanting long term romance from a distance, so they may have been using fake pics etc but I don't have interest in anything other than real relationships, of it's going to be romance and sex. It needs flesh to work.

I assume that fab site supporter show pics once only to someone option could reduce the chances of pics being downloaded and used by someone else? They get one chance to view, rather than view as often as wanted for ever.

I'm unsure whether some of the people who use someone else's pics deceive themselves so much that they believe that they are really like them, a doppelganger - but they don't choose someone with a matching physique, looks etc, so know perhaps not very deep down, that you would likely prefer the stolen pics to their own.

It's unpleasant when meet someone who has used misleading pics, as you have to reject the person

On a separate point, on other sites, guys have seen pics of them with friends and the friends were invariably the ones you would fuck, never them

I dont understand what the gain is in it, to use your photos against you? I have a 22 year old girl messaging me now, far out of my league, 200 miles out of my way but pics are verified. I have zero expectations with meets etc, when I was part of a swinging couple there was a group of about 5 couples that all met with eachother in our houses taking turns, the mantra was 'no expectations' sometimes we played, sometimes we stayed up all night drinking. "Everyone puts their best foot forward online and some take it too far with 20 year old pics or just someone else's pictures, few are brazen enough to actually meet and try to get away with it. Anyone been catfished? I have but not on here.

Certainly been led on excessively for someone elses entertainment, on more than one occasion. I think the sad thing is that some people who lack self confidence get drawn in by people like that, and end up getting hurt in the end, and disillusioned for future encounters

I have zero expectations with meets etc, when I was part of a swinging couple there was a group of about 5 couples that all met with eachother in our houses taking turns, the mantra was 'no expectations' sometimes we played, sometimes we stayed up all night drinking. No one ever knows how you'll feel until your boots are on deck "

My theory is to only expect friendship, and anything that is past that is a good bonus.

Only by someone who said that they had hair, even though his pictures all had the top of his head hidden. As I'd arranged to meet him in the afternoon, I'm not ashamed to admit that I saw him arrive as I pulled into park. As the sun bounced of his glistening bald head, the rays saved me £3.50 to park and I drove away. Returned and mailed him about his shirt and lack of hair .

Never knowingly been catfished. If I have been they have been extremely convincing if that's the case. Most are very easy to spot and avoid too.

Saying that I'm not good looking enough for a catfish to bother with, the advantages of being average or below!

Chatting to one now.. you learn to sense a legitimate profile. No pics is one and if the pics look too good (or too bad) sometimes they are. Reverse image search on google and I’ve found many images are pulled off porn or dating sites. Also some of the verifications look fake too so catfish will make multiple profiles to make it look more real.

Oh and the single guys pretending to be a couple as said on here already... so common. Excuses like she’s shy, doesn’t like pics, can’t go online just now etc..

After a while though you get to sense who is legitimate just by the look of their profile and how they banter with you on a chat.
