Here's a discussion I haven't seen before. Who plays a musical instrument, how well and how long for?

Though I (Luke) dabble in other things, I am mostly a pianist, with Grade 8 and a music degree. I have been playing since I was 7, so going on 40 years.

Hannah is a highly proficient classical singer with an impressive list of achievements too.

Are there any other keen musicians out there?

Viola & violin, from aged 8 to late teens.

Have played sporadically, and rather badly, since then due to lack of committment and practice.

.

Violin and piano; I've played violin since 4/5, piano when I turned 11. I was good. County and uni orchestra/quartet, first violin. But then life happened and I only play now as an odd annual Christmas tradition with a couple of my siblings.

I was a grade 8 percussionist by the age of 16-17. Eventually gave it up but it's a passion and I'd love to get back into it. I should have taken piano lessons when I had the chance but was too busy being tuneful.

I can play piano and guitar really badly, used to be good but after over a decade of not bothering in terrible and clumsy now!

Used to play the clarinet but haven't picked on of those up since I was about 14!

I sing though, my voice is my instrument

I love guitars kind of play not well enough to play on stage but I enjoy a strum when I get time.

More of a collector than player lol. Wife has a bass guitar but that very rarely gets played

I play thr piano, only made it to Grade 4, and that was 25 years ago so I'm nowhere near that level now. Bought a piano 3 years ago but it became an elaborate decorative feature and I recently gave it away when I moved house.

Anyone musical is wonderful in my view, whatever the standard.

Piano, guitar and hand drums. I tried to learn harmonica but quickly realised it's mostly improv. Currently learning the ukelele.

I went to Boarding School when I was 7 and ma Dad asked me what I wanted to play, I said Piano, so he bought me a Guitar. Next school hadn't got a Guitar teacher, so when I asked for Piano lessons, he bought me a Trumpet

Consequently I can play all three, but very badly

I have dabbled with learning the harmonica and chromonica but never really got my mouth and throat around bending notes. I eventually put this on hold as my cats made their protests about the torturing of their ears quiet clear.

My cousin who emigrated to Australia 20 odd years ago, is a wizard with a 12 string acoustic
