You would think they would have some kind of disclaimer or warning before the episode starts

In case someone wants to watch it, don't eat anything during Episode 3.

NOWTV / SkyAtlantic

It's the best drama of its kind since Hillsborough and Bloody Sunday.

It's accurate, the cast are excellent and it never shies away from the horrific consequences of a genuine disaster.

There have been excellent documentaries on Chernobyl - but this drama really confronts you with it in such a powerful way, you can't avoid feeling the human cost; in a way, I would suggest, most of us didn't at the time of the actual event.

Anyway, excellent telly. If it doesn't rake in a load of awards, it'll be a travesty.

A friend of mine has worked on the Sarcophagus, albeit from the comfort of the UK.

There's loads of docu clips on YouTube. Some of them tell stories around the original clean up.

Amazing, inspiring and breathtakingly sad all at the same time.

I think it’s absolutely brilliant. Explained everything in layman’s terms as well.

I had to fast forward some bits of episode four.

Staggering that they put the reputation of the USSR in front of the consequences.

Was surprisingly funny in places though the Miner bloke made me laugh

Im totally hooked! I watched the first episode on a whim and it blew me away.

Amazing performances from the cast, wonderful writing and handles a very difficult subject with real pathos. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Yes, there are upsetting scenes but that goes with the territory and none of it is gratuitous or salacious.

Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Emma Watson are brilliant.

It's excellent and well worth watching, I've been fascinated by the exclusion zone for years and can sit for hours looking through photos and videos taken there (blame the PC game Stalker:Shadow of Chernobyl) and the series shows how it all happened. It's grim and a tough watch, and shows just how terrifying badly handled nuclear power can be.

It's helping a little to deal with the loss of Game of Thrones! I'm gutted it's only a five episode series. I didn't like the last episode though, the pet thing was hard to watch, especially knowing it was real.

I think they did it in a very tasteful way yet still showed how horrendous it must have been.

It truly is an amazing series with incredibly good acting.

The fact that it's true makes it absolutely terrifying.

Started watching all 4 episodes early this morning after reading this thread.

What can i say about it ? Almost certainly the most absorbing, dark, upsetting, eye opening factual series i think i've watched in my entire life. I had no idea just how close the Soviet Union and large swathes of Europe came to be uninhabitable, not to mention the deaths of 100's of million of people. Looking forward episode 5, if any of you has Sky and has not watched it yet it is one of those series that just is a must watch.

I thought that i might want to skip as well after reading what others posted. The reality was though, i just couldn't stop watching.................all this stuff actually happened. I think all of us need to know this actually happened, because it may well prepare us for the next time it happens. Just like 3 mile Island, we got away with it. Next time, and there will be a next time, we may not be so lucky.

I've been fascinated by Chernobyl since it happenned. I was in high school at the time. We were all terrified of nuclear energy. We didn't understand it.

I'm watching this and savouring the horror. Did you know that the only other Level 7 core reactor explosion was the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan? Their casualties were far fewer as they had safety procedures and accountability firmly in place.

Chernobyl reminds me of the terror of communism, the ineptitude of party hacks and 'career aparatchiks' and the triumph of the mediocre over the voice of passioned and intellectual reason. It also directly led to 'glasnost' and the break-up of the USSR though I'm sure that wasn't the only reason but a major impetus.

Don't get *too* smug though. The triumph of the mediocre is alive and well everywhere... Western democracies too.

It's absolutely amazing, I love it. Its definitely a hard watch but certainly an insightful one.

Episode 4 with the animals was upsetting but what has scared me more is how heads of state cover up things so we dont know how bad it really is and what danger we are in.

I've also been fascinated with this series. I had known about it but not in detail. It's interesting to see how the whole thing was handled and just how people suffered just so that the state could appear to maintain control over the situation.

I watched it and thought it was very good, upsetting and thought provoking. My Dad's first wife died of leukaemia which was thought to be caused by drinking milk from radioactive cows. It reminds you how bloody dangerous nuclear power is.
