Worthing

As far as rock bands go UFO and Thin Lizzy should have been huge, specially in the States. Bad luck and substance abuse held them back.

Madness - it's only been in recent years (when sadly Suggs' voice has gone) that they've merited the kind of acclaim they deserved beyond being seen as "that band that made the funny videos in the 80s"

Much as I love The Specials and Terry, there really is no comparison between him and Weller - the latter's songwriting skills alone are leagues above Terry's

"James"

Its always a hard question as people will often just mention bands they like, so it’s hard to say someone is underrated in much of an objective sense.

But James always spring to mind for me too - they’re back catalogue is insanely good, and over 30 years since they started they are still releasing great new music. Awards aren’t everything obviously, but despite their longevity and continual great new music, they don’t seem to get a look in. And maybe fall between something like Radio 1 for not being young/pop enough, and more alternative stations for not being alternative enough.

So yeah - James have always seemed a bit underrated. Although I guess as a fan I’m biased.

Propaganda. German band from the mid 80s. A Secret Wish is a brilliant album. The 12” of Dr Mabuse still sounds breathtaking in its drama.

The Ghost of Lemora and Deathstars, but not everyone’s cup of tea, even in the alt scene x For me, it also has to be Venom Inc, such amazing musicians, great guys, even Metallica supported them when they were Venom, although I prefer Venom Inc with Demolition Man- better vocalist, frontman and awesome bass player x Viv xx
