"Can anyone help me with mountain bikes? My sam has a Norco full suspension with WTB Tyres, front one is vigilante 2.3 and back is beeline 2.2 both 27.5. I’m putting it in for a service and they have said to look online for new tyres, if it needs them as doesn’t include the cost. They are coming back on eBay at £40 for just the front one, back is cheaper at £26, so £66 for both. His back tyre keeps getting a puncture but his front seems fine (most expensive one) is it worth getting them both or just back one, and if so should I stick with WTB? Bearing in mind the service is costing me £80 before the cost of tyres. Cheers dudes ![]() If they've not yet said it needs new tyres I'd wait. Not sure about mountain bikes but my rear tyres on my road bikes always wear quicker.

"£80 to service a push bike? Jesus. You should check out some tutorials and do it yourself. They're a lot simpler than you may think" I haven’t a clue so I’m kinda stuck. ![]()

As I said the front one seems ok but thought I’d do both , but might not need to.

Take it off the wheel, and run your fingers, or something like a dish cloth Around the inside and see it gets caught on anything.

"try that car tyre slime it does work can be used in inner tubes as well as car tyres and other stuff " They apparently don’t do it in this size inner tube , (27.5) but as I said previously I do think he may need a new back tyre not inner tube.

"Google on-one They have wtb trailboss tyres for £12. These are a good match for vigilantes. Running them on my hard tail, but have them set up tubless. Local bike shop is best for servicing, avoid Halfords. " I’ve googled the cheapest for size etc is coming up £40. Back tyre which is a beeline is cheaper. The back one is the one that keeps getting a puncture ![]()

"Change the tire. You don't have to go for the same type, ask if n Halfords ( if you have a decent one) and take your son. They can tell you what types of tyres would suit his riding. And have you used the self sealing inner tubes? They are brilliant. Again Halfords stock these or will pump cheaper tubes with their own gunge. " I paid over 2k for his bike and got it from Evans cycles. My Halfords is local so I presumed easier for service but loads have advised against. Self sealing tubes can’t be used for his tyres but as an asking do I need to keep to same type and size ? Front tyre is bigger.

"Some causes of punctures need an airport scanner or MRI scan to find them easier to change the tyre " You don't change the tyre when you get a puncture lol. You change it when the tread wears out. As for finding punctures, dip the tube underwater, there's your puncture clear as day.

But considering you paid 2k and it's a mountain bike, I wouldn't go less than 2.3". You need wide tyres for good grip on MTBs. As for different size for front and back it's down to personal preference and riding style.

If he has a quality bike and wheels, may pay to look at tubeless. All my tyres are. Your local bike shop will be able to sort it out.

Like I said the width of the tyre for back and front is down to personal preference. The type of tyre and tread is also down to personal preference. Aggressive tread for front tyre for grip and fast rolling tyre (less aggressive grip) for back. But unless you're a professional competitive mountain biker, you won't really notice much difference.

Because like you said it's 0.1 bigger. Yes, although some manufacturers make the front and back slightly different. If it's not specified for front or back, it doesn't matter. 2k+ MTB for road use?
