So there are a couple of threads regarding cycling (road/tarmac) swingers but hardly any mention of us cyclists who enjoy mountain biking. Where do you ride? Are you going to Fort William this weekend?

I’m going to try and get down to The Dirt Factory this weekend to try it out.

Welcome!! I’ve not ridden Llandegla yet. I’ve got a voucher for Revolution bike park which I still haven’t used yet so will spend a few days in Wales riding.

Haha no lycra just yet!

My bike is a 2010 Giant Yukon and has 26x1.95 tyres but these look so small compared to others.

Can I upgrade to thicker tyres?

And how come 26 inch tyres are non existant now?

My forks also got a bit rusted through poor maintenance. Is this an issue? I've removed most of the surface rust (rust wasn't deep) but I have scratched the chrome somewhat..

Depending on your frame, you may get 26 x 2.2 fitted. You would struggle to buy a mtb with 26" tyres now. Standard is 27.5" and 29" if they are cheap forks, I doubt it will make too much difference. But if they are air forks, they're fucked. It'll damage the seals

Was in Afan last month. Very jealous of your location. It's very flat here in Hertfordshire

26” tyres are still available but are no longer general sale. Wheel size has moved up to 27.5” and 29”. You can go to 2.1 wide as long as you have clearance between tyre and forks and rear triangle.

The forks sound as though they need renewing so buy new forks which are cheap on eBay etc or even better speak to your local bike shop, they may have a set of 26” forks somewhere. And they are also a source of vast knowledge!! They’ll love you if you take donuts/muffins ha ha

You’ll be ok as long as you stick to fire roads and green/blue trails.
