Micra

Take a friend who can also look around for you.

I prefer the VAG so Skoda.

However, Swift are very good, not a fan of the punto or the 206.

Would also look at a Jazz if you can find one in that price range.

(Saying that, a well looked after high miles civic would be nice, just not as a first car)

My daughter on on her second Corsa and hasn't had any issues with them. Obviously get one that hasn't been ragged around by boy racers but you are spoiled for choice

I have a swift its pretty mich the same chasis as a corsa but mine and a mates driver side spring went so not sure if its a common issue i would check it first.

Its a good runner though survives highland roads anyway

Honestly a Fiesta.

It's easily the nicest ride out of that class of car. Boring to look at, no bells and whistles, but really reliable and fun to drive.

The mark 5 (2002-08) has a really nice driving position for a new driver too.

Draw up a shortlist and get her to test drive all of them.

Fabia or Fiesta

I bought my son a Fiesta 8 years ago for his first car, cheap to run, cheap to maintain.

I have a Fabia at present, and it is by far the best car I've owned, cheap to run with 56 mile to the gallon.

I'd suggest whichever would be cheapest on insurance - as that's going to be pricey.

VW's tend to be more costly to insure, so I'd rule the Polo out straight away.

Corsa or the swift. I've owned both and both are nice cars and they're robust. Clios are also great first cars.
