Huge bee hive

Im Sitting drinking a cuppa in my front garden and noticed loads of big bumble bees have set up home in my ventilation brick under the window....!!!

There are hundreds and they are very busy!

One was giving another a piggy back...and no that's not innuendo lol, it really was - anyone know why?

(Not really fab-like convo but hey ho)

see if you have a local beekeeper they wwill happily come and get them do it quick before they start to nest they probably just swarmed recently

And put them where? Why can't they just stay where they have chosen?

Anyway they'd not be able to get inside to find the queen lol, they're in my brickwork

Often have wasps or hornets nests but never bees.

This freaks me out. I dont like them.

Last week at work I saw a swarm of bees, I didn't realise at the time they were. But they have built their home in a tree right by a gate i use. I shall now go the long way around.

Having done a small amount of Internet research, the piggy backing bees were likely to be mating. You're very lucky, not many people get to see that apparently. Bumblebee porn is very niche.

Wow...I didn't know that I thought only the queen was mated.

Mind you it was an enormous bee!

My postman is complaining but I like them and I'm not moving them!

Very possibly they are protecting the queen.

I once saw a shit load of bees set up home in a pedestrian refuge. They were all over that thing.

Sounds lovely OP.....bees are protected so just leave them til end of season they will move on.....great to watch the comings and goings...

If they are bumble bees then the nests are typically not huge with only up to a few hundred bees max, usually less. Nice thing to have really and won't do anyone harm.
