Biochemically, romantic love may be indistinguishable from having severe obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I just found this interesting.

I'm not really sure what I want to ask or discuss about it

When a man falls in love he gets the lot - a feeling of slight panic, huge excitement and a thrill too, all wrapped up in a knowledge that he can’t live without this other person in his life.

Women get this with shoes

Love is.... just a moment.

Love is made up of a million tiny things which often pass by unnoticed.

Love’s just a word for boy meets girl when you know it’s fear they’ve found.

"Is this where people think OCD is keeping things tidy and in order, or the actually condition that can be Debilitating ?! "

No, it's the 'Pure O' form of OCD that's being referred to. The pathways in the brain that cause the obsessional thoughts in OCD are the same as those that are active during the infatuation felt when falling in love. The whole 'my head is full of you' thing.

An evolutionary throwback. A chemical reaction of the brain centred around attachment (safety in numbers) and the need to procreate, to keep your bloodline going.

The actual condition. It was a scientific study not just a random thought someone had.

Away for Christmas

Love is nothing more than serve attachment, an addiction to something or somebody, on a spectrum.

Love is an unhealthy attachment as it is actually quite selfish in its nature with what it can cause people to do, say, or even think.

Love is dangerous. Caring deeply

and compassion on the other hand are much healthier view of things.

Perspective innit, love can be power, strength and confidence boosting, but some see it as weekness because you have to share feelings and you risk losing it....

Infatuation can be described that way, for sure. I love my children and my friends and neither of those types of relationship are like the thing you have described.

Love is easy, if it’s hard work then you’re not in love you’re on list trying to force it into something that doesn’t exist

I’ve never felt the love that I feel for my partner and it’s unbounding, obsessive and highly likely to be unhealthy but it’s the most incredible feeling that I wouldn’t change for the world

Love is being able to look at someone in your darkest moments and feel that they would crawl down with you or do anything to bring you back up

Love is waking up and looking st someone like they’re the most precious thing on the planet and you feel lifted

Love can be painful but love is what it is because it need to be to help you show how incredible life is

That one is a line from a song. I guess it’s that sense of uncertainty at the start about whether the other person feels the same, or if it’ll stick and last.

The next line is particularly romantic...

“But there’s no mistaking that special feeling

When I’m inside you...”

It’s really catchy though:

Like Nell, I think it’s infatuation that is obsessive. So when falling in love the infatuation can cause obsession. It is also probably what causes the really painful feelings in unrequited ‘love’. I think it is more linked with the Greek notion of Eros, than unconditional love, Agape.

The right place

For those of you that watched Fleabag you may recognise this:

It turns out its quite hard to say something original about love… but I’ve had a go…

Love is awful! It’s awful! Painful.. frightening… It makes you doubt yourself, judge yourself, distance yourself from the other people in your life. It makes you selfish, makes you creepy, makes you obsessed with your hair, makes you cruel, makes you say and do things you never thought you would do!

It’s all any of us want, and its hell when we get there!

So no wonder it’s something we don’t want to do on our own.

I was taught that if we are born with love, then life is about choosing the right place to put it. People talk about that a lot, it feeling right... when it feels right it’s easy. But I’m not sure that’s true. It takes strength to know what’s right, (pause) and love isn’t something that weak people do. Being a romantic takes a hell of a lot of hope. I think what they mean is, when you find somebody that you love, it feels like hope!

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."

Being in true proper love has always brought out the best in me. I like men who demonstrate their love, lots of cuddles, playfulness and that connection where you can be as silly as you want and they just think you’re amazing, or as serious or as upset as you want and they don’t judge. They listen. Their actions mirror their words, you can look in their eyes and just tell they love you, you don’t have to wonder, you just know. That in return makes me feel loved. Feeling loved is the best feeling in the world. It’s like you’ve been given a superpower. It’s like a warm blanket being wrapped around you, protecting you from the everyday world.

But when it goes wrong and is taken away it’s crushing. Debilitating. It leaves behind the most painful scar on your heart and memories that, whilst mostly happy, hurt to remember. A bit like accidentally touching a hot kettle.

And yet folk do it again. Where there is love there is hope. That the next time will be the forever time. That our journey for the one one person we want to find, who will mirror our feelings, is out there waiting for us to find them.

Love is not giving up on ourselves. Remembering that we deserve to love and be loved in return. Whatever the past brought, it’s the future we need to look towards and all it’s possibilities.

That is a revelation to me. I have OCD. I have also had a habit of falling in unrequited love from when I was in primary school until about 15 years ago, when I learned to recognise the early signs and nip it in the bud each time the cycle starts.

Surely love is the human equivalent of the pair-bonding instinct found in many mammals and birds. It is natural, whereas maybe OCD is a "misfiring" of this instinct. Perhaps?
