As View says, there can be lots of reasons, but we should really accept how people type rather than pick up on it, as it puts people off from posting.

I dont care whether my spelling is shit on the forums. I save checking it for when its important. If someone is so worked up about whether i can spell or not their not really the sort of people id want to meet. If someone cant work out what someone is trying to say because they have made an odd mistake then its not the spellers fault

Admin just messaged me to say that from 0700hrs 20/02/12, anyone that cannot spell will be banned.

Those that do not use proper grammar will be on a 5 day ban.

And if you are useless with punctuation, then you will be put up against the wall and shot!!

tbh, bad spelling is acceptable, due to people typing quickyl, having shite keyboards or being tired.

poor grammer is bad, though.

making a long post using only 1 sentence can make it |VERY difficult to read, and as has already been proven, we can still read badly spelt words as long as the majority of letters are there.

"Why can't people spell correctly?"

When you expect perfection it might be an idea to strive for it yourself or else you may look a wee bit daft

It's don't not dont and haven't not havent, I could go on but I think you might catch my drift.

Personally I do not care one jot about others spelling, I prefer to get to know the person.

I am more likely to avoid the spelling snobs if I'm honest as I can't be doing with self righteous knobs

I can cope with some dodgy spelling - I'm guilty of it myself sometimes, especially when using my phone!

But I do appreciate someone who can express themselves well. Text speak is lazy, and I'd rather get a misspelled note than a text speak one - even more so if it's suggestive of a keen, fun or witty mind. I can overlook their instead if there etc for an interesting mind attached to a cute body...

How does spelling define someone?

They may have difficulties with reading and writing.

It's more about the content and context of what the person is trying to say.

Why are some people ignorant?

A degree of dyslexia may be one of the most common reasons. Also, when you think about it, our language is pretty dyslexic. See? Sea? Cake, Kate etc.

"Why can't people spell correctly?"

There's a lot of poor spelling and grammar about, and no doubt we make a few mistakes ourselves along the way, but we try not to let it bother us. I mean, it would be very picky to criticise someone's profile for a lack of apostrophes or confusing there and their.

Doesnt matter if someone is blind or not, its pretty childish to pick someone up spelling one word wrong, when you know damn well what they mean. Or was it to try and make yourself look clever? There are many reasons why people cant spell. My spelling is crap on the forums because i dont use a spell checker, im here to have fun and not get picked to peices just because of my spelling. As i said in a previous post on this thread, if someone cant understand what someone is saying because they have made the odd spelling mistake its not the spellers fault.

"Why can't people spell correctly?"

It is most likely down to poor education and the fact people who struggled at school still struggle now.

Lots of reasons....

For fucks sake, you know as well as I do that the No.1 reason for people not spelling correctly is laziness.

What! Am I supposed to check every person's profile who spells incorrectly to find out if they are blind or not.

The OP asked a question.... I answered.

As for what you should do, I didn't make a suggestion in my answer, nor will I.

Its down to inadequate education almost everyone can learn to spell either with or without an aid no matter who they are if they have the right education (There is a difference between intelligence and education)its just a matter of using what skills you have to hand before typing or putting pen to paper.

Isn't it rather foolish to make sweeping statements never having seen hand writing by the above you quoted? In Steve Jobs case I think all the statements he put out to the press were grammatically perfect too.

"Why can't people spell correctly?"

Given that everyone in the UK goes to school for at least eleven years there can be only one answer to this question. People who can't spell correctly are of low intelligence or, to put it colloquially, thick.

Dyslexia isn't a form of un-intelligence, neither is it a low form of IQ, quite the opposite.

What about people who have dyscalculia?

Does that make them un-intelligent?

Does it fuck as like!!

Intelligence can be judged by peoples ignorance.

It makes a person look foolish to assert that Leonardo da Vinci couldn't spell when there was no correct way of spelling in Italian (or English for that matter) in his time.As far as the others are concerned, what is the source of your information? Is it reputable? I don't think so because Hans Christian could certainly spell according to a friend of mine who wrote his doctoral thesis on Hans Christian Anderson.

"so some think, spelling is all down to education DOH!!

albert einstein

winston churchill

leonardo da vinci

jf kennedy

richard branson

henry ford

hans christian anderson

thomas edison.

it's likely this lot couldn't spell correctly either.

so i think we can discount, lack of education as a reason.

posters who make such sweeping statements, only make themselves look foolish.

oh did i say,steve jobs.

Isn't it rather foolish to make sweeping statements never having seen hand writing by the above you quoted? In Steve Jobs case I think all the statements he put out to the press were grammatically perfect too.

It makes a person look foolish to assert that Leonardo da Vinci couldn't spell when there was no correct way of spelling in Italian (or English for that matter) in his time.As far as the others are concerned, what is the source of your information? Is it reputable? I don't think so because Hans Christian could certainly spell according to a friend of mine who wrote his doctoral thesis on Hans Christian Anderson."

so are we to beleive thet yous are right,

in your assertion,that niether,

leonardo da vinci

hans christian anderson

nor

steve jobs

and that every internet site that lists famous people with dyslexia, are wrong.

now who to believe,

the wild ramblings,of someone on an Internet forum.

or every Internet site, that lists famous people who had dyslexia.

hmmmmmmm it's a hardy.

ps so steve jobs, hand wrote all of the statements he released to the press,

now that's dedication.

you would have thought he would have had a secretary, for that kind of thing.DOH!!!

I don't mind if the odd word is misspelt. People's brains work differently and some more gifted than others.

What annoys me is when the word isn't misspelt but purposely spelt in text-speak. Innit.

Steve often liked to put out statements himself as he was hands on, he was smart enough to use tools at hand which are available to all. You may be surprised but lots of dyslexic people are cleaver enough to use what is at hand so you would never know.

"Given that everyone in the UK goes to school for at least eleven years there can be only one answer to this question. People who can't spell correctly are of low intelligence or, to put it colloquially, thick."

What an amazingly undereducated assumption!

I can script/program in 12 different languages, I wrote my first game for the ZX Spectrum that sold a few copies when I was was about 13, I passed all my school and college exams (exept English) yet i'm thick because i'm not the best at spelling!

Some people make me laugh

"Why can't people spell correctly?

Given that everyone in the UK goes to school for at least eleven years there can be only one answer to this question. People who can't spell correctly are of low intelligence or, to put it colloquially, thick.

I can't see a problem with people being thick, why use it as an insult? Not everyone can be clever or well educated, live & let live. Z

Well said

Hmm. Given that most people judge others on the basis of what they know of themselves, and given too, that I didn't say I had 'a problem" (what does this crass television Americanism mean?) with people being thick, I wonder if the writers of these comments 'have problems' with people being thick themselves but, true to the reputation that the British have for being dishonest and hypocritical, just can't bring themselves to admit it?

I don't have issues with any one elses intelligence, I wouldn't say that I was hypocritical or dishonest either, I don't like the fact that some people look down on others for any reason - if some one is thick- so what? Z

So now you are assuming I look down on them? Again, this says something about you. Perhaps you should be honest with yourself. I know English people do find this difficult, but you could try!"

and you show your intelligence by being racist do you? Wonder how long this post would of stayed on the forums if you substituted english for black or asian people.
