"OK so just had in my opinion a very materialistic member message Conversation was mainly how thry saw money as God Now my question is does money make you genuinely happy with your life or is it a false happiness " It makes life easier and more comfortable but I'd never see it as god

"Making money your God is worshipping false idols. Making money to make yourself and your loved ones comfortable is OK. Everyone's idea of comfortable will differ." I like this

If they are happy then that's good. But I usually find that people who need to shout about what they have (like they are doing) are very unhappy. Like the people who post lovey crap on Facebook - heading for divorce.

"I've been happy poor, I've been happy relatively well off and I'm happy now when we have enough but not a lot. I have never lived in poverty but I reckon if I did money would make me bloody ecstatic. Once you get past a certain level of wealth more money probably doesn't make you happy but I don't buy into "we're poor but we're happy" real grinding long term poverty does not make for a happy life"

"I've travelled to countries where the local folk had very little money, the folk over there were happy and pretty much were always smiling, sometimes the simple things in life give far more pleasure than any amount of money can."

"I grew up below the poverty line, was very comfortable when I was married, and am now back below the poverty line. I honestly don't care about money. I'm happier now than I've ever been. More money would give me more options perhaps, but I don't desire material things I can't have so I'm content enough. It helps that I'm great at budgeting. If someone is obviously more motivated by money I find it a turn off. " Same. Nicely put.

"they have researched it. Happy people are happy with more money. Unhappy people are unhappy with more money. Everyone has an initial spike of happiness due to a sudden increase in money, however it fades out to your "natural" level. ie, if you are depressed you havent had a holiday in a few years, then you will be depressed you only had 2 in a year after a while. If you are happy having no holidays, then you will be happy going on 2 a year." That's about it!
