" I am from Southern Africa so I make what is known as biltong (cured dried beef) I make it from a silverside cut which means it has a large portion of fat. I also eat loads of other meat and eat the fatty bits too. I try to have lots of different types of fat. My carb intake has gone from loads of pasta, rice, sugary sweets and loads of sugary softdrinks to virtually no carbs at all. Just incidentally on this diet I suffered from IBS. IBS has now vanished completely. | |||

If muscle is being consumed to release glycogen then your food ratios are insufficient and/or insufficient quantity of food. If your body has changed a lot since you started the diet, it's probably time for a review. Mrs | |||

Because the diet has worked so well for me, not just weightwise but healthwise too I'm reluctant to give it up. But it looks like a diet you only do for a short time. A little keto essay coming right up... I recommend ketogenic forum for any keto questions. Wealth of knowledge from new and old keto peeps. Initial loss of muscle will resume back once your body becomes fat adapted which takes around 2 months... I was lifting 30kg with a 17.5kg bar for deadlifts and I'm a smurf. I did keto the majority of last year and lost 3st as a result. I then came off it for about 6 months however still carefulish what I ate so didn't put more than a 4 pounds back on. I started keto again a month ago as I have another 3st to loose but more importantly I found myself getting sick again when I came off keto. For anyone that says it's not sustainable or long term diet I beg to differ. Health wise: Obviously lost weight Ibs completely gone Psoriasis completely gone Mental clarity Feel balanced in my moods Planta phisiaitus completely gone Hair skin and nails in great condition now I never seem to get the flu or colds whilst on keto but once I stop I find myself catching everything I don't feel hungry or even crave anything. I don't even think about food until I know I need to eat something as my body so much better at telling me what I need and how much Vs when I eat carbs I can eat a man size portion and still crave more food later on that day Extra bits I take: Magnesium B vitamin Vitamin d3 Ashwaganda drops and maca powder both are adaptagenics and help your body adjust to this diet.. also help lower blood sugars and improve mood... It just keeps me feeling balanced more than anything. Foods I eat on keto: Just had mince fajitas but no flatbread , just had it in a salad bowl instead and I could only eat half a bowl as I was full up and I had a pack of ham earlier today. I do a great pork chop with boiled veg and colliflour mash. Love dark chocolate and a couple of squares does me just fine I eat so much healthier now, my meals consist of meat or fish of some description, plenty of veg grown above ground, berries and skyr vanilla yogurt. I cook in butter buy I certainly don't stick any butter in any coffee ... Hate coffee Steak and salad anyone For those that have not yet educated themselves properly on this diet, don't judge it .... " If you was eating carbs once a week you was basically undoing any benefit of doing keto, it takes about 3 days for your body to get Into a state of ketosis, so you was only managing that for 3 days every week. As for op, if you've lost muscle mass you need to up your protein intake | |||

Rep range to 5x5 or 5x3 on compound lifts " I must confess I have never measured my calorie intake. Since I started on keto I found that it takes much less to fill me up and therefore eat a lot less food. My strength and muscle loss only started once I had lost most of my fat. To give you an idea, before I started keto I could no longer fit into 34" jeans. Almost a month to the day after I started I bought my first 32" inch jeans in 20 years. Those now fall down to my ankles if I don't wear a belt. (The problem is I don't have the strength or energy to lift them up!) I have gone from a pot belly to being able to put my hand under my ribs At the start of keto diet I was able to do a one rep lift of 120kg bench which is nearly 1.5 times my body weight at the time. I now struggle with 60kg. Everything else is positive. My health is 100%. My mental clarity has improved. My digestive system has never been happier. I feel younger. It's just things that I used to do with ease are now a struggle. Lifting heavy suitcases etc. Were it not for the irony of the expression as pertains to the subject at hand I would say I want to eat my cake and have it too | |||

"How many calories do you need on keto to still lose weight?" You'll lose weight on any diet if you're at a calorie deficit. So basically just use more calories than you consume. That's why a lot ofnoep0le do the 5:2 diet as it's the easiest you can stick to. You eat you're normal 2000-2500 calorie meals a day for 5 days and dont eat anything (or a maximum or 500 calories) for 2 days a week, so that puts you at a deficit of 4000-5000 calories a week | |||

I'm going to go for one last ditch attempt using l-glutamine otherwise it's back to Italian food " nothing wrong with italian food, just avoid pasta and bread, eat the meats cheeses and Mediterranean veg, it's a well balanced diet and throw heavy weights around in the gym to give you your strength and muscle mass back, do a bit of cardio too and you can't go wrong!now all I need to do is follow my own advice! | |||
