".... Until you have felt the love they give and share, you will never know love like it, money pales into insignificance. Then they get into their teens and all that love goes out the window when you send them to school in a crap pair of trainers." We never let our kids go without. I used to earn a decent wage but to do that I had to sacrifice working away from home. I ended up doing my health some serious damage working stupid hours (all my own choice) and haven't worked for the last year to get back on my feet (any savings were soon gone on bills etc) and we survive on Mrs Artful's wage. Apart from the health issues, one of the things that hurt was the fact I was losing any connection with my wife and kids. To be able to wake up and take the kids to school and work and be with them to laugh and spend time with them is priceless! No money can buy that time, no money can give me that feeling.

We have had to make the decisions many times and always came to good compromise for them which they were happy with, so we were happy too.

"I dont spend much money (not that ive got much to spend) i do like the simply things in life, but being skint can make you ill with worry. The question was is money everything so my answer is still no, but we would all benefit from being richer than poorer. It can buy good health care, good education for your children"

"Of course not but happiness is a choice. I have been happy with it and I have been happy without it. I prefer with. " True. But it isn't the be all and end all, it's just an immaterial possession that we are slaves to in some respects.

"if money cant buy you health how come the rich live on average longer than the poor " And how come its so expensive for bupa (there are other health companies available) so only the rich can get immediate medical treatment while the poor have to wait months to be seen by a specialist and then even longer to be treated

The richer class may live longer but it doesn't mean to say that they are happy. The private medical industry is just that, an industry. They can make you feel a little more comfortable while you stay with them, if you have the money then it would be wise to use it for your health. At the end of the day I suppose that's why we play the lotteries and gamble to take us to another level of financial security.

"probably the wrong time for me to have read this thread as ive just come back from my friends house who has been ill for a while now but untill tonight hasnt told anyone whats wrong with her She found out a few months ago that she has huntington's disease and is now at the point that shes finding it hard to do things for herself which is why shes had to tell people because shes needs help with basic every day things Shes 32 years old, single with a 7 years old daughter, shes been told that in about 5 years time she will be at the point she will need 24/7 care and then its just a slow death from there Ive sat tonight and watched her cry her heart out about the fact she will not see her daughter grown up or have gran kids So no money means naff all, money does not buy you health or does it able you to see your only child walk down the aisle seriously if anyone won the lottery tomorrow how many of you wouldnt traid it in to change that?" Sorry to hear your friend is ill, bless her. If anyone needs a bit of luck or a windfall it's her. Puts everything into perspective.
