"The Peacock caused Darwin quite a headache, viewed through the lense of natural selection the animal is a complete conundrum; how on earth can the evolution of such plumage possibly increase it's chance of survival? This drove him to develop his theory of sexual selection. The Peacock with the biggest feathers and the most eyes will get the girl, and so it goes on. However, such things come at great cost to the male. The growth of his feathers takes it's toll on his energy reserves as well as making him easy meat for predators. As does all that strutting around and calling when his time would be far better spent eating. Why? To get laid. Yet it occurs to me that it is the Peahen that must choose him, she is the one that must make the decision. She is the one in control." And the moral of this story is???

"My husband is scared of peacocks Wuss. " I just asked him why he’s scared and he said ‘I don’t like them, I don’t like all the eyes’ Which is ironic cause he wears glasses and therefore has four eyes

"Peacocks are the stupidest animal on the planet." Not quite. At work once i observed a cock Pheasant repeatedly running at and crashing into a patio door. Why? He thought his reflection in the glass was a rival male.

"The Mr and I were talking about this the other day. In the bird world the males are the ones with all the colours, fancy plumage, dance skills, exotic looks etc whereas the females are very plain in comparison. It would make an interesting club night if all the ladies turned up in their white (or in my case grey) comfy cottons while all the guys turned up in their jazzy undies, body paints, make up and insane dance moves " It's a common feature throughout the animal world, it is the male bird that does all the singing, has the brightest plumage, the best dance moves. This begs the question why, in recent centuries, has the human animal stepped away from this? Not to mention the poor old stag that must fight to exhaustion, even death.

Female profiles with no pictures, text or no more than the minimum needed will still be swamped with messages. The driving force is the urge to attract a mate, by showing that you have resources to spare, by growing impressive plumage, or antlers. Men do this by driving flash cars, and similar status symbols.

Completely so, yet the point of this post is to show that no matter how much a male pursues a mate the choice whether or not to accept his advances is ultimately hers to make.
