Limbo

Various methods of hair removal have existed for thousands of years. But I'd hazard a guess that in times gone by this was almost certainly restricted (in cultures where it mattered) to the very privileged few with time, money and access to the necessary implements or expertise. I very much doubt the vast majority of poverty stricken peasants eking out a miserable existence for themselves would have given a single second's thought to such things!

Thought she got taken by force and was doing her best in the circus? (not goady - just racking my brain to remember my history)

Hunter gatherer tribal societies in resource rich and competition free areas had/have quite a bit of free time. Usually spent grooming and playing. So it could possibly be a very old practice in some cultures.

I mean if they're prepared to put plates, disks, rings, tattoos and scars on/in their body.. What's a bit of body fluff to be rid of?
