New sofas release volatile and semi volatile gasses for months after they have been made and some of them you can't smell, so unless you like breathing in things like formaldehyde,benzene, ammonia, and toluene then i would open a few windows

That is the flame retardant chemicals they treat the mattresses with,many of which are carcinogenic. Get a untreated wool filled mattress next time especially if its a child's mattress because wool is naturally flame resistant and non toxic unlike one's that contain polyurethane which is petroleum based.

Omg think if I spilled wine on the sofa trim would kick me out.

We are already winding him up by saying we need to buy some hazard suits so we can sit on the new sofa.
