Fill large clear plastic bottles with water and place them around the area , make sure the labels are off the bottles , was chatting a guy once who swore by this method!

Get yourself a big fake goose and attach it to a stick.

Much better than a scare crow.

My dad used to use propped up wire mesh over the patch he was seeding or some netting.

Put the grass seed in the oven, then leave the kitchen door open. Then when seed is being eaten close oven door and cook on a medium heat for 2 hrs. This way you both get your seed back (all be it in a roundabout way) and a tasty meal.
