Rupert Murdoch is planning on printing the Sun on Sunday 6 months after the NOTW shutting down. He has also halted all suspension of staff till the police investigation is concluded. Is this a shrewd business move or the act of a greedy man?

Well they were questioned and the Sun suspended them apparently. Now he is playing hardball reinstated and is going on regardless. I'm not sue if that's for the his good or the staff.

The man fascinates me and scares me at the same time. It will be interesting to see if the police end up sending some to jail.

Britain is almost alone in the way certain sections of our society hate success and people who make a success of themselves.

Elsewhere in the world it is applauded and honoured....here we have a dislike of anyone else making it in life.

Probably an envy mentality amongst sections of our nation?

That's why I titled it The Sunday Sun as I was aware of the local paper as there are local papers called the star like the national version.

I think you have a point there although there is negativity towards success in countries who have communist political parties. I do think there is venom in the UK though. I frankly think success is good for many reasons but do feel uneasy at the way the UK press works and what it will do for a story.

I am surprised that you of all people, with your Islington right-on _iews, want to attribute the distaste many millions of people feel towards Rupert Murdoch's malevolent influence on British public life to envy.

Your patronising theory falls at the first hurdle. Richard Branson regularly makes the top ten most respected people in this country, albeit partly due to clever image management.

Murdoch, Dacre, Maxwell, Desmond. Cancers on our society.

Why?

Get caught with a pic of a topless 16yr old on your laptop now, and it's an absolute offence of producing an indecent picture of a child.

To quote Wikipedia

"Samantha Fox, Maria Whittaker, Debee Ashby, and others began their topless modelling careers in The Sun at the age of 16"

To continue the quote from Wikipedia

"In 2003, the Sexual Offences Act 2003 raised the minimum legal age for topless modelling to 18."

So Murdoch made his money publishing what would now be called child porn by the law...

Or, as the avergae Richard Littlejohn reader would no doubt say 'He's a fucking nonce guv....'

It was always going to happen, with or without NOTW printing a 'controversial' story or what have you.

He is a business man and from what I know a sucessful one.

Yes we are all envious of Rupert Murdoch aren't we? It is this envy which causes us to dislike him.It has nothing to do with the fact that he is obscenely rich when so many people live in abject poverty and got there by being utterly ruthless and unprincipled, and completely devoid of humanity,as the Dowler family learnt.

And if Rupert Mudoch is your idea of a 'successful person" who should be applauded,I hate to think who else is on your list . Stalin perhaps? After all, he was even more successful than Rupert Murdoch and even more ruthless.

I read an interesting article in one of Siren's mags the other week. The author of the article is a journo, obviously, and he wanted ot lift the lid on which news stories are selecting for print, which of them are true and what is deemed palletable for us to digest.

He went on to say that what is printed is only 70% of the truth but 100% of it is truthful. He also mentioned that reporters don't go into detail about how bad a decompising human cadaver smells because it's considered to awful to leave to reader's own imaginations. He then covered the subject of celebrities and would it surprise you to learn that EVERY celebrity who denies a story publicly via their PR agent has in fact been paid for that story and inter_iewed for it. They do it for the publicity.

How does this all relate to Murdoch?

Well, he's in the slime buisness and knows it better than anyone else, so before anyone condemns him or his newspapers for hacking into the phones of celebrities it's worth remembering that they seek publicity only when they've been paid for it, and many of them are being paid out for it now. (The Milly Dowler hack was unforgivable and it is right that he had to answer for it).

Will I refuse to buy Murdoch's newspapers? Will I hell as like, I always read the NOTW for the football section (not interested in who Jordan is screwing today tvm), and in the immediate aftermath of the cloure of the NOTW I tried a couple of other papers and they didn't even come close in terms of sports reporting.

Yeah, I'll buy the Sun on Sunday, and if it resembles the NOTW, even better.

And he is 'obscenely rich' by working for it, by taking chances business wise when others didn't....and as for your Stalin comments about me, you seriously need to grow up a bit.

There will always be those in life who are succesful, those that are not but are happy to be that way (probably the vast majority of the population), but those who whinge and moan about people that become succesful through hard work are the onlookers who can't stomach anyone else making it.

What about the defamation of Christopher Jefferies (the landlord of Joanna Yeates) and Robert Murat(the Madeline Mccann Suspect)? Seems that the Sun feels like it can libel ordinary people more because they know a lot of them find it hard to find the money to sue them.

I think to be fair the Joanna Yeates landlord knew exactly what he was doing when he put himself firmly in the picture for her murder, if you look at the police statements on the matter they show that not once did Jefferies confirm nor deny involvement...he seemed to revel at being in the spotlight at the time.....a very lonely and troubled man.

Not everyone is an 'ordinary' person....some are sponges for attention and soak it up.

That's very unfair to say and the treatment he received was appalling. I think the man was startled and not looking to in the frame for a crime.

I dont remember reading anything about police statements, because the police are very restricted on what information they can release into the public domain, so not to prejudice any future trial. My understanding is they can only release the age of a suspect and not give any other information that could intentify a suspect until they are charged.

I read some of the stuff written about him at the time, and knew he would have a very good case for libel if he wasnt charged.

"the sunday scum, a prime example of murdochs gutter press pedling celebrity sensational shite news storys....ill stick with toliet paper..

Fortunately it's a British newspaper and not an Irish one....so no worries for you."

Wrong. There is also the Irish Sun which is producing the Irish Sun on Sundays.

"I think to be fair the Joanna Yeates landlord knew exactly what he was doing when he put himself firmly in the picture for her murder, if you look at the police statements on the matter they show that not once did Jefferies confirm nor deny involvement...he seemed to revel at being in the spotlight at the time.....a very lonely and troubled man.

Not everyone is an 'ordinary' person....some are sponges for attention and soak it up."

Or he saw the £££ signs rining up with every minute he was being mistreated by the police and the press. And he got a handsome payout too in the end.

Sounds like a shrewd bloke to me.

For someone so quick to make pronouncements about the fallibility and sheer unacceptability of the _iews and beliefs of various forumistas on here, you seem very willing to forgive Rupert Murdoch's world _iew. Does your journo hubby have some connection to his media empire?

My husband hasn't worked in Journalism for many a year......and it was music publications.

But hey....you lump everyone who works in that field together if it makes you feel happy....knock yourself out.

I wonder why we have such a diverse range of newspapers and magazines in this country?

That's gotta be the most dense statement I've ever read on here. Of course he doesn't mean the phone hacking.

Business is business.

There is an old Irish related name that people should become familiar with again.

Boycott,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boycott

It's a fantastic tool, especially if large number of people use it.

If you don't like something, don't do/use it, stop trying to ban things for other people

Love to all xx
