"I'm sorry to hear that - sounds terrible. The aggression of d*unks is quite frightening. I decided to stop drinking because I began to feel the effects the next morning (30 now and the hangovers started kicking in) and I truly believe that just because it's socially acceptable ignores how dangerous alcohol consumption is. That said I will find it tough to resist drinking when I'm getting constant questions about why I'm abstaining. Peer pressure is tough." You don't need to abstain totally though, moderation is dandy. Peer pressure.... be a wolf not a sheep I think those that pressure you into things lack respect. It's fine to offer, but they need to understand you know you. You know your body, your limitations and you know what you do or don't want. P

"I’ve had a can of lager and two pints since I hit40 nearly 6 years ago,no reason in particular I just stopped but I’d spent the years between being 18-40 in a d*unken haze.Turns out I don’t miss it either " Did you find it inhibited your social life at all?

"Is anyone here teetotal? If so, why? Has this always been the case or did you stop at some point? When you did stop were there are repercussions? I myself decided to stop at the end of last year and since then have found it inhibiting my social life. What are your experiences?" Why does it inhibit your social life? They sell soft drinks too.

"I've never really drank a lot. Maybe when I was younger going to night clubs with friends. But even then they would have about 10 drinks to my 3 or 4. I've probably had about 12 drinks this year, usually a wine or a Martini. What I have never understood is when people go to sporting events or gigs etc they have to have a drink to enjoy it. I always go to see the event and hardly ever drink at these kind of Ithings. " I wonder that too. Why pay to go see a band but be pissed and not able to enjoy it.

"I see profiles here where they say they don't meet non drinkers because they only like people who know how to have fun. Seems arse backwards to me. I can have fun without mind altering substances. " I agree with this, although I do enjoy a little drink time to time

" I've had periods of not drinking and it does make some drinkers uncomfortable. Also most soft drinks are sugar laden shite, considering the number of low sugar/sugar free drinks available most bars still only seem to do diet cola or occasional diet lemo. Pricewise it irks me that some bars will charge the same for a pint of lime and soda as they do for a pint of beer. It is changing a bit now tho, compared to 5 years ago but in some bars it can still be hard work . I was in Norway 10 years ago when I was pregnant, and they had a fantastic choice of alcohol free beers, all styles, that actually tasted good. We are way behind that.

I often go out and don't drink. How does it inhibit your social life?

"I (kitten) finally admitted I had a drink problem last year. It’s been going on for years, started after my dad passed 7 years ago. My ex didn’t care thought is was great to have a drinking buddy. Hubby ( we’ve been together five years) was always concerned. When he started discovering half empty bottles hidden round the house he calmly sat me down and told me it’s him or the booze. Then frog marched my ass down to the nearest A A meeting. He likes to drink too, but he doesn’t have a stopping problem haha. Up side of it is in now seven months clean, we both don’t touch it (he might have a pint of beer once a month if we’re out). Booze free house and we’ve both lost over a stone .." Well done on your 7 months I can relate to this having been sober for 4 1/2years now

It's not that I don't drink at all, it's just rare, and it's usually only one or two. Never really been d*unk in last 4 years, only drink about 3 or 4 times a year. I usually end up being DD. A couple of my closest friends also either rarely drink or abstain completely. I have a great time when out, I have no extortionate taxi fares home, no hangover and I'm not skint Tbh the people I hang around with wouldn't dream of pressing me about it or even bringing it up. My decision, non subject. I had a pal who drank a fair bit and his drinking friends from work didn't react well to his cutting down alcohol. He realised then they were egging him on to drink with them even though he'd said he wasn't. He got new folk to hang with. You do you OP.
