Food for the poorly

When you’re feeling poorly (but perfectly able to eat) and want food that cheers you up, good old convalescence food - what do you have?

Are you a bacon sarnie type, crispy bacon on fluffy white bread with tomato ketchup, or Heinz tomato soup with buttered bread/toast, or baked Camembert dunked into with hot new potatoes, or cheese oozing Macaroni topped with truffle? Or what else? What do you crave?

I’m poorly and hungry - can you tell?!

Soup and buttered bread or Marconi cheese. Also quite enjoy a smoothie when I'm ill. Maybe feeling like I'm getting lots of vitamins helps. My mum always wants rice pudding when she's ill.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Cream of Tomato soup with buttered crusty bread. Cornflakes. Cheese on toast.

The problem with my choices is that I will have the soup but no bread, I might have the cornflakes and no milk and the cheese (still no bread) will have hardened and turned green long ago.

So I eat chocolate or fruit. I always have chocolate and fruit in the house.

I hope you feel better soon, OP.

What time is iftar?

I love how the mosques invite everyone in to share iftar each evening, many of our non-Muslim homeless clients benefit from wonderful hospitality.

It's basically fermented vegetables with flavourings. Ginger, chilli etc

Fermented/salted veggies, typically cabbage and radishes and things like that, lots of chilli and seasonings and it can smell vile but taste awesome. My Korean friend introduced me to it when we were both living abroad in Beijing. It’s a perverted addiction of mine now.

I never lose my appetite unless I've got an upset tummy. If I'm ill I will eat anything but carbohydrates are favourite. A massive bowl of vegetable soup with thick sliced bread spread with lurpack about an inch thick would do the trick for starters.

Is there anything better than the toast and jam with tea that they give you after you've given birth though?
