I have some nice-ish watches, one of which has lasted me over ten years. All of them costed less than a tenth of £2000.

I've got a Michael Kors Bradshaw smartwatch, they retail around £360 now, looks like a traditional mens dress watch other than the face which you can customize to whatever you want. Obviously not as expensive as a Tag or U-boat but I really like it

Phippe Patek Grand Complcations

For about £2k per month for a couple of years.

The midnight blue is rather fetching.

But if you've really only got £2k in total you might as well get a casio or a timex.

It'll still tell the time and you won't look like someone who's trying to sound flash but isn't.

Tens of thousands of people pay thousands of pounds every year to watch a bunch of blokes, kick a big of wind round a patch of grass while wearing the same outfit- at the end of the year they have bugger all to show for it.

For less money, i have a selection of precision made, beautiful time keeping machines- some of which have increased in value...and i don't have to stand in a drafty stadium all winter eating an overpriced pie to keep me warm

Not really!! Mine was a token of love by someone who could afford it! It wasn’t a status symbol. He knew I would appreciate it. Over 20 yrs ago I inherited a watch which I adored from the age of 5!! My great uncle bought it for me that day and obviously my aunt wore it, when she passed I got passed a letter, and it explained why I had the watch and it contained a VHS video. Was so so touching

That's different, inheriting and passing it down the family is not what I meant....for me personally, I could never justify spending that much on a watch for me or anyone else, especially as a token of love....I appreciate other things in life, material possessions just aren't important.

I’d save a little more and get a nice jaeger reverso (I find them to be as good a standard as anything by Patel)

You can find seamasters for around the 2k Mark, Though again, for a little more the speedmaster would be a better purchase. (Though the new seamaster is beautiful)

The bronze Christopher ward trident is beautiful, I’ve got the original model - I’d say they’re of better quality than the more pricey Tudor ranges.

The Tudor fastrider is lovely though. The longines master collection is also within that price range. They’re not haute horologie, (though nor are the more expensive Rolex) though make nice watches.

Big brand watches are a law of diminishing returns for me (I know that could be considered an oxymoron given how some do appreciate very well).I have a couple of nice auto Seiko's which hold their time just as well as anything else out there. And an unbranded watch with an ETA hi-beat movement that I found from a German watchmaker when I was in Munich.

I am a bit fussy though as I won't wear a watch that ticks, quartz movements are just not my thing.

New, Oris, Tissot plus a load of others.

Longines is always a solid bet.

Walk into any chain jeweller with cash and you'll get 20% of any new watch, I've done it twice. Longines hydroconquest auto and Tissot PRS516. Asked for 20% off and got it in both instances.

Brand new 41mm semaster in Goldsmiths would be £2336 with discount.

I made two grand selling my t/t datejust, when the prices increased. I lost nearly a grand on my panerai though.

I doubt that a non branded German watch would have an ETA. Likely a miyota or some other generic movement.

I'm pretty sure it's an ETA, he was a very small scale watch maker, making the watch cases etc from scratch and obviously buying the movements in. Kindly let me look around his premises, and showed me the movement of not only the watch I bought from him but a few of the others he was in the process of making.

Also got it given the once over when I had it serviced last and no question of its authenticity was raised.

Its unbranded as in nothing on the face apart from time markings which I like, I prefer the less is more look. Either way it's a watch that I like the look of, that I like wearing and it's definitely a 28800 bph movement which appeals to the watch geek in me.

I know plenty of complete cunts with no integrity who wear rolex or tag.

I like what I like, says nothing about me other than I like my watches.

Can't stand Rolex, modern tags are overrated and hublot and over priced tat in my opinion.
