Random people making small but lasting differences

I wonder if anyone else has this? Has a random comment from someone changed the way you do something or think of something?

A couple of examples for me:

A girl who had a bedsit in the same house as me when I was 16 berated me for using too much tissue to blow my nose, and to this day I now only use two squares.

She wasn't important to me, i wasn't bothered what she thought, but what she said made sense & it changed me in a very small way.

And, Mark Owen of Take That once made a flippant comment in a TV interview that you should turn the tap off while you brush your teeth to save water and I still do that now too.

There's probably more, but I just wondered if anyone else has anything like this? Or maybe I'm just bonkers

Yes. My mum's rather eccentric friend told me you can always tell if a person is British or American by the state of their teeth and I should aim for American. I was around 9/10 and it's stuck with me since. I brush religiously.

Absolutely. A recent series of cyclist threads on this forum has changed my attitude towards cyclists on public roads. Up until now I hadn't realised that there was a portion of them who resent motorists for driving on their roads. Didn't know cyclist arrogance was a thing. Very educational.

It’s good to learn from other people.

Learning from nice people is easy, the difficult bit is learning from horrible people but often they have a valid point in there somewhere

I was taught at a young age that manners cost nothing and I live by that rule.

A good soldier is always 5 minutes early - my Dad taught me that

On here I can’t go into that but sometimes something is said that changes your whole perception.

Glad it's not just me I guess the examples I gave are rather eco friendly, I hadn't though if that! Just interesting to look at different things that shape people, even if only in small ways.

A very random one here. My mum always taught me it was good manners to leave a small amount of tea or coffee in the bottom of a cup.

I still do it to this day.

Tip from Evie on here, that you should completely melt the wax at the top of a candle on the first burn so that it melts evenly afterwards - Ive done it ever since

The first time I ever dud the washing up my mum told me never to put the sharp knives in the water or I'd cut myself. I still never do that (if I see anyone else do it I do a ) and I think about my mum every single time I wash up.
