"I asked a question this morning about dying and was overwhelmed by the responses. It felt good to share the emotions, all be it mostly difficult ones but to know we all had that shared experience felt really supportive and to hear people's own stories was really uplifting at times. " Yes, I've been reading that thread throughout the day. In its own way actually a very beautiful thread.

"Are people more comfortable or even prefer to reveal their frailty on social media because its anonymous to a degree? " Possibly, yes. There is a certain comfort to be found in the kindness of strangers.

"Hearing someone talk about what makes them imperfect is far more beautiful than any picture or self promotion. Maybe I'm soft.. but I like people that give you a little insight into what makes them who they are. " I agree, honesty is a beautiful thing and has a certain clarity to it which is obvious. Yes it can make you vulnerable but I think that doing that helps you know who to trust and who is worthy of your support in return.

"Are people more comfortable or even prefer to reveal their frailty on social media because its anonymous to a degree? " Yes I think so. I also think it a generational thing too. (major sweeping statement alert) I think most of us under 40 have just grown up with social media but also more comfortable expressing our emotions.

I try and contribute to any thread where it's obvious the person needs support if I know my contribution is relevant, experience based and likely to be helpful.

People of my age either have a deep mistrust of social media or are so naive about it that they happily reveal way too much. Again a generalisation

" I don't want to hijack this thread but my parents are obviously very elderly and I have to closely monitor what they reveal on Facebook etc. They have absolutely no understanding of the consequences. I think that sometimes people of all ages don't consider the possible future implications of what they reveal.

"I would never reveal my vulberabities on social media. " Yes that's where I've gone wrong in the past,it's not the wisest thing to do.

"I would never reveal my vulberabities on social media. " Same. It means I come across as a hard faced bitch, but I'd rather that than have some weirdo latching on to a vulnerability and taking advantage.

"Are people more comfortable or even prefer to reveal their frailty on social media because its anonymous to a degree? " The relative anonymity of here is a better place for me to open up when I just want to get something out without all the 'whats up hun' of facebook sharks or worrying family. I wouldnt go all out and reveal all I dont think though.
