Bi-fold door threshold advice

As this is a lounge I wanted to ask advice on some home related alterations.

Is it possible to have bi-fold doors fitted with a low threshold and drainage so you get a very similar level inside as on a patio? If so, how is this achieved with sufficient drainages and to comply with building regs etc? Thanks.

Please wise cracks about swinging. Just serious replies about the topic or go find someone else to wind up.

Very easy and nothing to do with building regs. The channel and threshold for the door is set to suit the floor levels, on the outside good practice would be to have an acco stain level with the threshold to take away any surface water, the external brickwork and thebehild the acco coated with a water proof paint:bitumin or similar

Level thresholds are easily achieved by raising the outside hard landscaping level to meet the threshold and just use an ACO threshold strip.

ACO... yeah. Stain level? Not sure what you mean by this.

I’ve seen it done where the cill runs off into the ACO drains (so it sits on top) but I’m not sure which manufacturers do a threshold that drains out into the ACO. There seems a few companies that produce solutions for an ACO type drain that integrates with the door but I’m not sure if this I any better.

Hmmm. Yeah I thought it was possible. So as I’m having new bifolds installed would you recommend these brands...

So I wouldn’t need the “cill” what work I have instead? And how would I bridge the gap between the door recess and the face of the wall. This will be around 10-20mm I guess.

Shuco is very expensive commercial curtain walling generally and architecturally specified. An unnecessary expense for a domestic situation I would say

Agree. Either slope towards the house (if the ACO is there of course) or away if there’s an ACO or somewhere for the rain water to go.

Either slope is fine as long as it has a destination to go to?

Yeah they seem to demand higher prices and I can’t see the benefit in paying them.

I would put an Aco along the threshold regardless of levels, just good practice, and as I said coat the external brickwork with bitumin to the back of the aco or better still place a membrane there flashed below and behind the aco

The bi-folds won’t have a cill then? How do they drain “into” the ACO then? And how do you fit an ACO along the back of a house of the doors are recessed like they are?

The cill can be minor and over the edge of the aco, the recess can be in the cavity with its own drain away into a cavity tray . It will be easy enough to get a detail

I’d prefer not to have a cill if possible. So options to not have one would be great.
