"A natural disaster is actually more likely and a major extinction level event happens every so often... believe the last one actually wiped our most of the European cavemen... and that was because of the super volcano in Italy ( which is currently showing alot of activity) but I don't worry about what I have no control over " Well that don't cheer things up any. Your right there has been a fair few regional and global extinctions in the planet's history. Likewise I don't worry about it, but I do find the concept of how much energy in such a short period of time could be released fascinating. Also I get the people who want to ban the bomb, to remove it would reduce a significant risk factor to our future survival. But personally (like most) I suffer from great apathy on this point because the task seems so impossible and I am far more distracted other things in this world. Also I understand the security it offers poviding no one fucks it up. But I am intrested in the odds of this happening in the next 100 years. I would say more likely than we'd like to think. I guess the main thing is the enjoy life best you can. Its almost inconcivable that we came to exist in the first place and like all good parties it has to end at some point. Or existance is a gift not to squander. So Love, fuck and enjoy the party because you never know when last orders will be called.

"I think the nuclear threat is less than in the sixties" It's still as present, just slightly different. In the 60s there was massive overkill on both sides due to the belief that some of ours will be taken out by them and vice versa. Now we still have an over capacity but it is more targeted. However we also have far more players at the nuclear table..

Removing the bombs is going to be a hard task, loads of countries have it, smaller countries might be reluctant to give it up as they would feel the need to protect their country.

"But I am intrested in the odds of this happening in the next 100 years." 14/1 William Hill 18/1 Ladbrokes Paddy Power are offering a double with odds of 33/1 of that happening combined with the dinosaurs coming back.

"Realistically... the human race is much better equipped to deal with any event which in the past would have decimated the population. The things that can be achieved through modern science and engineering is extraordinary and will protect us in 99% of cases... the other 1% will be down to Bruce Willis to save us. Cal" Sorted then. I have complete faith in Bruce Willis ![]()

"Nothing I can do to stop it so I shall carry on in ignorant bliss, and should the worst happen, I'll go and grab a front row seat to watch it coming." I remember mum talking about a acidental false alarm that happen to her and dad in early 80s (I think just before i was born) in the early hours of the morning. She said they just stayed in bed. They lived less than a mile from an airfield so didnt see much point doing anything else.

Imagine any city where suddenly there is no power for a week.

"I think you’re looking in the wrong places for disasters. Someone said the other day that they didn’t seem to get as many bugs hitting their windscreen these days. They thought that great. "I think countries should quite possibly grow up and ditch the bombs. They all need cuffing round the head like naughty schoolboys and have their pea shooters taken off them. No place for it this day and age. Nor was there ever a place for it. " True, but without getting all conspiracy theory bat crazy sounding; those who hold power will never relinquish it and how they grasp onto it. Powerful energy companies and conglomerates are in bed with governments and sadly most environmental initiatives are seen as a way for many to make money not actually achieve! Boy my Friday is starting glum...I actually find it sad.

They should fly everyone supposedly in charge just above the earth so they can see the whole beautiful thing, then explain how silly this one group of boys this side waving guns at this other group of boys the other side actually is. Call them twats, cuff them round the head again. Fly them back to earth and tell them to just get on. People are stupid.

"On a positive note all out nuclear war will re wild the planet. Chernobyl has become a refuge for wildlife. Its because we aren't there that it has a greater biodiversity than anywhere near. I disagree, even a schoolboy engineer or chemist can produce electricity in a whole variety of ways, and all of the old fashioned things we used to use (steam, gravity, water etc...) will still work... plus, in the event of a nuclear incident, we'll be able to utilise the free radioactive fuel sources all around us ![]()
