Stop referring to women as "female"

Woman/women is a completely different term to female.

Woman is specific to human beings where as female could refer to any species with the capability of producing eggs and growing a baby. Women/Woman can include those women that are transgender too

"Looking for females" female what? Female dog, female goat, female whale??

No one refers to men as males, so why do that to women?

It's grammatically incorrect and the word most people mean to use is woman.

It's a real pet peeve of mine and when I see both men and women use this term it's so cringy.

Anyone else feel the same?

What's your pet peeve when you read profiles on here?

Hmmm. This site uses both Male and Female on virtually every profile - M F MMF etc.

Doesn't detract from your bee in bonnet but personally doesn't bother me to be referred to as a Male vs Man.

There and to the left a bit

I'll be absolutely honest and say this is one peeve I don't necessarily understand - although know some women object to the term, but then some don't.

I often see men referred to as males too, and as one it doesn't bother me in the slightest when I'm referred to as such personally.

Take on board that it's not species specific, but think it's safe to assume that 99.9% of the time it's being used to refer to a human on here - however to play devils advocate what about the term "lady" which can be used to describe other species too - is that also frowned upon? Or even terms like "she" and "her" which are non-species specific?

No disrespect intended at all in any of what I have said, just trying to further my understanding of why, for some, the term "female" is seen as derogatory - after all most official forms list male or female when asking for gender to be specified, likewise things like some public toilets and other every day instances - which may explain why some, like me, don't understand.

That's my point. That it can be seen as a derogatory term, to refer to a woman as just female. Sure, single bi female we know you mean a woman or "female politician/ female singer". Out in the "real" world surely people don't use the English language like this and say "I'm attracted to males".

But you know, this thread has now become a playground for weirdos... always a few

Well it nice to know what you don't like to be called. It's noted and I have no problem with not using those specific terms with you as I know you don't like it. I think that's fair and respectful to you as an individual. But I'm not going to change my widely acceptable language in general to appease the wishes and whims of one person/small group when engaging in normal conversations with other people. I feel you maybe a long way off convincing wider society of your point of veiw on the use of language in this case.

It doesn't bother me but I can see why it might annoy some people. We all have wee things that irritate us on here. For example I don't like it when people call sex "playing", it makes me cringe. I'm not entirely sure why some people took such exception to this thread to be honest.

"Woman/women is a completely different term to female.

Female dog - Bitch

Female goat - Doe or nanny

Female whale - Cow

Would be grammatically correct"

Female human? - Woman

I can see the term "playing" being something that could irritate people if you want to just call it straightforward sex.

I don't know to be honest, I was looking for a discussion but got a few people being snide and sarcastic instead. Pity really...

"I'll be absolutely honest and say this is one peeve I don't necessarily understand - although know some women object to the term, but then some don't.

No disrespect intended at all in any of what I have said, just trying to further my understanding of why, for some, the term "female" is seen as derogatory - after all most official forms list male or female when asking for gender to be specified, likewise things like some public toilets and other every day instances - which may explain why some, like me, don't understand."

Thank you for this

For me personally through my experiences whenever I've heard a man refer to a woman as female it's always been in a negative way that had just reduced a woman to a "play thing" to use and discard as they pleased. So it's said with disrespect towards the woman merely being an object and not a person.

Fair enough - although to play devils advocate again - other terms like woman, lady etc could be used in a derogatory fashion in just the same way - so perhaps it's the context in which it is used that is the cause of irritation and not the actual word itself?

"Female" is offensive, but "weirdo" is ok?!

It means the same as hotwife just without the cuckold connection because some people perceive hotwife as cuckold just a cool way to say hotwife relationship. stag the male, hotwife the "female" lol

It'll change next year and calling us men and women will be taken offensively by those who are gender neutral and we'll have to rethink things. Even now we're being told that some get offended if their child is called a boy or a girl because apparently their parents say they feel differently inside.

I found OP's explanation completely underwhelming. However in OP's favour she may have been displaying her knowledge of the poems of R Kipling that support her. His famous poem ends:

"And Man knows it! Knows, moreover, that the Woman that God gave him

Must command but may not govern -- shall enthral but not enslave him.

And She knows, because She warns him, and Her instincts never fail,

That the Female of Her Species is more deadly than the Male."

"I think some women dislike the term as it is often used in a derogatory way towards women. Not something I do myself but I have heard it used like that in the past.

Just thought there would be more intelligent constructive posts, but hey ho "

I totally get this. And in fact, thinking about it, I don't think I've ever met someone from here who uses the word "female". That's how unpleasant it is to me.

I also can't bear people calling women "ladies". No one calls men "gentleman". I can't understand it.

In all honesty I think there are far worse things to call ladies on here than ‘female’!

What makes me cringe - and terribly sad at the same time - is when fellow swingers call others who may be a little more prolific in their play ‘sluts’, ‘slags’ etc!

Now that’s certainly a hypocrisy that I’d love to see addressed!

Can’t recall being called a female to my knowledge - but it wouldn’t bother me at all! I’m usually called ‘Peachy who talks a lot!’

For me personally through my experiences whenever I've heard a man refer to a woman as female it's always been in a negative way that had just reduced a woman to a "play thing" to use and discard as they pleased. So it's said with disrespect towards the woman merely being an object and not a person.

I often agree with you my lovely but don’t with this - purely because I haven’t had that experience in my time here!

When I meet guys they always react to me in a positive way - and I’m sure are aware that it would be a very short meet if they spoke about women in general in a derogatory way!

With a few of the obvious ‘can I fuck your arse’ first message exceptions (which I delete without thought) I’ve always been treated with nothing but respect and consideration by the men of fab!

Sadly - the few issues I’ve had on here have invariably been with women!
