"Not just on occasions, do you? I do "

If you must believe in the fiction that is religion your profile is seriously at odds with the teachings of your itinerant preacher.

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her? in his heart.” Matthew 5:27-28

Exactly so ... whereas I admire committed faith in people .. I can't be swayed to their way of thinking without a reasoned explanation of why what they say is true ... I cannot be a blind believer because the masses say so ... I do find it ironic that a congregation is often called a flock, sheep that blindly follow.

Tend to agree, I find people who have real deeply held faith of whatever religion fascinating and have had some really interesting discussions with them and the one thing that the reasoned ones appear to have is an open mind to other ideas and thoughts about their own faith and others..

"Thought of the day...

Mother Theresa of Calcutta is (I believe) only one confirmed miracle away from Sainthood,.having already one miracle under her belt.

On that basis, Lemmy from Mötörhead is merely 2 miracles away from Sainthood."

Sorry , but huh??

Someone vaguely similar probably existed, there was a big end of the world movement in that part of the world at the time, subversion against the Romans etc. Various stories of various preachers. Some embellishment and falsification. A following develops. This explodes, eventually, within the Roman Empire. The Romans try to nail down the "truth" and in doing so vandalise and destroy records not in keeping with their political and social motivations.

Various translations and other thinking, particularly Platonic and Aristotelean philosophy, influence interpretation over time, and messages are given priority or suppressed given social and moral fashion over centuries.

Is my semi educated guess.

Depends if you’re into masochism or not! I’ve heard some like all that stuff but it’s not for me!

No Christian really should ever be on this site. Sex is, fundamentally, anti-Christian as any PROPER Catholic will teach you. (Don’t mean those among the clergy who have done horrible stuff and are on the highway to hell but proper Catholics!) All sex is sinful and all pleasure of sex is sinful, even within marriage. Christian purity can only ever be achieved by never having any sex of any kind. To a good Catholic, the only reason to have sex is to produce children. If you don’t reproduce that’s a sin against God. If you do and you enjoy it, that’s also a sin against God. Sexual pleasure of every kind is anathema to true Christians. If you enjoy sex, you’re simply not a Christian and will be damned in the eternal fires of hell without question. I know, I’ve studied theology!

Stourbridge

Late one night, a burglar broke into a house that he thought was empty. He tip-toed through the living room but suddenly he froze in his tracks when he heard a loud voice say: "Jesus is watching you!"

Silence returned to the house, so the burglar crept forward again. "Jesus is watching you," the voice boomed again. The burglar stopped dead again. He was frightened. Frantically, he looked all around. In a dark corner, he spotted a bird cage and in the cage was a parrot.

He asked the parrot: "Was that you who said Jesus is watching me?"

"Yes", said the parrot.

The burglar breathed a sigh of relief, then he asked the parrot: "What's your name?"

"Moses" said the bird.

"That's a dumb name for a parrot," sneered the burglar. "What idiot named you Moses"

The parrot says, "The same idiot who named the Rottweiler Jesus."

That's not a million miles away from it, yes.

Personally I have a huge issue with organised religion and how a person's 'faith' is primarily a means for the church to control them and further their own wealth and ends.

Any organisation that tells a person "you should" or "you must" on a daily/hourly basis deserves to be examined very very closely.

If you must believe in the fiction that is religion your profile is seriously at odds with the teachings of your itinerant preacher.
