Is it acceptable to hug someone you meet from here for the first time or should a respectful distance be maintained

I'm talking about someone you'd like to become regular

Am I in the wrong place

Ask them

There’s usually social cues you can follow but if you’re unsure, ask

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

If you go in for a hug and they offer a handshake you know that they don't want a hug.

I think for a first meeting the hug comes at the end, if things have gone well. Never at the beginning - unless you've built up a relationship first.

Northampton Somewhere

If the social goes well I'd go in for a hug and a kiss, depending on how that felt would be the decider as to whether I met them again.

If it comes back as a knee to the bollocks, all won’t be so good
