It’s true...I’ve spent time looking for things, then realised I’ve lent it to someone 7 years ago

Sometimes I think they secretly wanted it in the first place

I think in such cases both things go together.

The lack of independence causes the need to borrow, and the need for dependance causes the need to keep the item.

Ignorant if I ever borrow anything it goes back soon as I’ve done the job. Borrowing and not returning is Theft really

This is a thing that really aggravates me I would never ask someone for something and not give it back.. Because it would be on my mind all the time.

But in my experience nobody as the decency to give something back. So I never lend anyone anything now.

Yes but at what point in time, does the person come to presume that the item is now theirs - 3 months, 6 months, 12 months etc

My son does this, borrows and doesn't give it back. He's had my pressure washer for over a year now. He wants to borrow my leaf blower but I,'ve told him it's broken. X

What's even worse is when you ask someone if you can borrow something from them and you realise it was yours to begin with

I lent my cousin money a few times and he allways said he would give it back (but he never did) so one night I was in town and I needed cash for the taxi and I asked him for a tenner which he gave me.. The next morning he had the cheek to knock on my door and demand it back lol.

So I thought to myself, you have never given me any money back and I refused to give it back to him.. That was years ago and we still don't talk lol.

She didn't 'give' it, she loaned it to them. If she gave it, it would have been a gift.

I dont lend stuff out anymore, or loan money. It will more often than not come back damage or you will never see it again.

Probably because you've both forgotten about it, both to blame in that situation. Nothing malicious about it, ive had it happen both ways.

I never "lend" books that I treasure because we all know that lending equals giving where books are concerned.

I lent a bracelet to a colleague to wear to a wedding and it was some months before she gave it back. I couldn't understand why.
