So I just applied for a job in a large company where I know the CEO and an Operations Director as they just left the company I am at now.

We still kept in touch and would share thoughts and ideas via LinkedIn.

I just applied to work for them should I send a cheeky message letting them know?? Or is this in bad taste?

Keep it polite and it’s not in bad taste at all.

Good luck with it

I would definitely drop them a line, something along the lines of "I saw you were recruiting so I've applied. Keep an eye out for my application if you feel I would be an asset to the company."

That leaves the ball in their court and draws attention to your application without appearing to expect too much.
