I've not had a work sick day in 15 years because I'm badass. However do you think it's ok to have a sick day and give the reason for not going in as "I just can't be bothered today".

I think it should be allowed at least once a year.

The sick days at my place of work are something else.

One of my colleagues had 10 days off with a sore throat, another one 3 days with tummy ache

If I had a day off for every day I woke up feeling slightly under par, I'd never be in

I went in this morning despite feeling like a truck had hit me because I knew we would be understaffed this afternoon. I lasted to 2.30pm before finally calling it quits.

If your head isn’t in the right space though, you’ll be less productive. We have flexi time so if my head wanders off up my arse, I know it’s better to say I’m taking the afternoon and making it up when I’m a) busier and b) focussed.

Kudos to all those who’ve never taken a sick day though...I’m hugely impressed

Not a brain surgeon thankfully but I may have years ago pulled a sicky for going out till 6am and decided I was too d*unk to work. Not my best moment in life but it was an epic random midweek night out.

So do you think your employer thinks any better of you for not having any time of sick or do you think that regardless of your record you had to have time off for medical reasons and it triggered the HR department to monitor you do you think they would bypass you or treat you exactly the same as everyone else??

I worked with a guy who never took a single day off Sick in 30 years with same company they even used to have to force him to take his holiday.

I coined the phrase "work pervert" to use as a description to what he was loved working that much.

Despite this...

He had an accident at work which rendered him useless for the job that he did.

Now despite a wealth of experience that could have been used elsewhere and his willingness to carry on working.

The company couldn't wait to pay him off and get rid of him.

So next time you work perverts go into work coughing up your germs over everyone else.

Just remember that companies will not treat you any different if you become surplus to requirements.

I was never at school much but never miss a day of work. I've had flu, broken ribs, severe back pain and still manage to get in, even on snow days.

I brought this up because a dude at work called in sick and when I asked for a reason he said "make something up for me" lol.

I work a weird shift this weekend, 5pm to 1am just me alone. It's not bad, even last night whilst working I had 2001 a Space Odyssey on, one of my screens.

However working Friday and Saturday night is a ball ache and the knowledge it's Netflix and Chill time elsewhere is difficult

But if I call in as a sick day, someone else will have to cover it. You know how it would look within the team on Monday as if you let them down or that management would then decide to add another person to that shift. So I would end up doing the shift more often. It could be a lot worse and as many would agree, no management around means you get more done

If people stayed at home when they was genuinely sick, Cold/flu, chest infections etc they wouldn't spread it about, Every time I catch something its due to a work colleague coming into work while sick

Unfortunately I work in the building trade and blokes aren't supposed to have stuff like mental health issues!

In this industry rather than change your shifts they just straight out sack you.

Strangely all the management and office staff get full sick pay yet the operatives only entitled to SSP.

So unless I have more than a week off and claim my 98 quid a week.

I don't get paid and probably get sacked as well.

I get 52 weeks full sick pay.

I’ve used it when I’m ill and I’ve had a few months off when I’ve had a chronic illness flare up, but that was nearly 4 years ago now.

If you’re ill stay at home, If one of the guys I work with came in clearly ill id ask them to leave as I don’t want to catch it and more importantly I don’t want to take it home and pass it onto my baby.

You’re no better thought of for trying to be a hero and work when your unwell.

I had a sickie day today, last night i left a note on the supervisors desk as he done his usual dissappearing act early saying "im not coming in today (saturday) due to work place stress caused by you yesterday (friday) see you monday, dont call me il call you"

Very rarely do I pull sickys, think my last 1 was about 10 years ago to go for a job interview (got the job by the way).

I dont see the point in pulling them though lol, if I dont work, I dont get paid, I'm not on a bad wage either so I lose out on a decent amount.

I'd rather go to work, be paid and not being arsed rather than lounging around not getting paid

That's just like where I work. If you have 3 periods off sick you get a warning, then 3 more and another warning, finally 1 more absence and your gone.

We have the Bradgord factor so unless its emergency leave or parental any sick time off is accounted for.

I work in a big open plan office and there is usually something going around so half of us would be off and they are so hot on absence you really cant afford to take time off..financially or in fear of getting done for it.

Most places I have worked don’t pay sick time so it has to be an extreme case of illness for me to be off. I can’t afford it.

I do remember one time when I worked in a factory having to take a late shift off for being really ill. And my friend I worked with had rang in sick too.

She had a go at me saying it looked suspicious us being off together.

It turned out she hadn’t gone in because she was out celebrating a relative being in the paper for a kiss and tell story.

Her downfall was being spotted by one of the supervisors from a different shift.

She wasn’t there the week after.

Either you live to work or work to live. If you are of the later of course it's ok to phone in for a day off, so long as you are not letting the team down. For a while I worked in a kitchen. Sickies had a serious detrimental effect on the team. Whereas in my office days, a day off was hardly noticed. In that environment I got endless colds from all the other buggers insisting on coming in and sneezing all over you.

In my job they budget for 9 days sick leave but we get 6 months full pay while on sick and then 6 months half pay but give you a certain form to fill out that tops your pay back up to full pay for another 6 months
