I got caught driving someone home from hospital in Manchester many years ago. There wasn't the option of a speed awareness course then, so I got the fine and points. 38 in a 30 limit

I went on one 3 years ago now. It was actually really good and I learnt a few things. For mine there were about 50 people split into groups/tables of 8 people where you listen to the presenters and then discuss answer questions with your groups.

Overall it was quite fun and got me out of 3 points

boring dribble.. PowerPoint presentation to death by someone trying to make it fun as well as educational. Usual name swapping at start.

Oh.. and my favourite random, non-relevant tales and examples given by a socially inept gibbon who fails to realise everyone else wants to get it over and done with as fast as possible, SO DONT ASK ANY QUESTIONS! Mr PowerPoint loves his pedestal and will actively encourage the inept gibbon to ask more random shiiit.

On the bright side.. I did sit next to a very attractive woman on my course. We had a giggle and a bit of a flirt, but she was engaged, so I didn't chase it up... So fit though.

Back where I belong

I've recently done o d and found quite interesting. A mix of male and females and all ages. We had bowls of sweets on the tables, but you had to buy your own tea and coffee. You're given a booklet and a pen. You watch videos and answer questions and discuss reasons for speeding.

One guy on my course fad actually attended three courses, so they obviously work!

Yep!! It's 4 hours you won't get back for sure!

In mine, the most mature people were arguing with the instructor about the validity of speed limits... Was all I had to stop me from throat punching them... Its painful enough as it is with deidre and Derek moaning about 30 speed limits!!

Ditto.......

I think the attendees enjoyment of the course depends on two things though;

How good and engaging the presenters are.

How much the attendees are willing to engage and learn.

I really enjoyed the one I did....

Yep couldn't agree more - the one I did the presenters were engaging and non-judgemental, put the content across well and I learned things.

Can imagine with the wrong presenters though it could be tedious.

Think it depends on the area and how much over the limit you were, plus if you already have points as to whether you are offered it.

I think mine was 4 years ago, I enjoyed it. We had some amusing participants. And in all seriousness it makes you think about speeding. If youre caught again though within a certain length of time I don’t think you get the course as an option though.

Pretty much as Ghengis said, wonder if we were at the same one.

An interesting moment when one woman tried to justify her speeding and subsequent trying to argue it out, by saying she was really ill at the time and it wasnt fair, she should have been allowed to get away with it. The irony of her being too ill to drive in the first place was obviously lost on her. Even the man in charge seemed lost for words.

They did show one of the speeding adverts that had been on tv, and that was sombre as the whole room was quiet. I didnt quite cry but I could have done.

You probably need your bottom smacked though.

I'm booked on one next week. First driving offence since passing my test at 17.

I was shocked at a. how expensive it was and b.how much the prices differ depending on where in the country you take it.

Dreading it as I have the attention span of a 2 year old.

Don't worry. It's relaxed. It's just a 'making you think' course.

Quite an easy way to spend a day and the course gives you answers in any case.

No one is put on the spot.

I did one a couple of months ago. The instructors were brilliant, they weren’t knobs and tried to make it enjoyable. I would say the more you put in the more you get out. It also helps if you chat with folk before going into the room. You’ll be able to sit yourself on a table with folk that have a personality and sense of humour then

Yep, I’ve been on one about 5 years ago.

It was the most boring 4 hours of my life, the presenter was a complete and utter dick.

When I tried to question him about one statistic his reply was and I quote

“ I can fail you, in fact any of you “

Complete and utter waste of £120, most of the others on the course agreed
