Winks....

What purpose do they actually serve?

In the time I've been on here, I've had a few (some from actual real women!) but when I pm to engage my winker (is that the correct terminology? They're the winker? and I'm the winkee? Or is a winkee something completely different? I digress) in conversation, 9 times out of 10, I get at best a brief reply, at worst complete radio silence.

Please someone enlighten me

Many thanks

Winkee

A lot of people (like myself) ignore winks as a message is the best route but they work for some people to show interest

I find winks really useful...as an introduction.

It shows an interest so its a starter to highlight either you are interested or they find you interesting

It shows someone is interested and I personally like receiving one

Just around the corner

I get the odd one. Sometimes they answer a message; sometimes they don’t.

There and to the left a bit

Different people view them different ways - some see them as an icebreaker to gauge if there's mutual interest, others view them as pointless and ignore them completely.

I rarely send them unsolicited but if I receive one and I am interested will wink back to see if the originator takes the next step, but I don't place a great deal of faith in them generally.

They’re good. Many a meet has started from a wink.

I don't consider them lazy but I don't really pay attention to them. My inbox is enough to deal with.

I've stopped deleting them though as another user mentioned if you don't they can't send another. Same with friend requests. Which, more often than not are unsolicited and are more of a gripe than anything else.

I just see them as an icebreaker

As long as the winker has read our profile,we don't mind and may wink back.

I have always understood that winks (Winker or otherwise) are a notification to say that you like their profile, but understand they are so hot, with loads of messages that they would never get to see yours and probably just end up deleating your message if you sent one. So a wink back or a decent message to say they would like to chat, taking things further, in time. But alas, not all see it that way. Perhaps a good idea to set a presidency for winking.....

We use winks....think they are great for a gentle nudge to say "hi, come check us out"!! Lol! ....or in response to a couple who have winked at us!

Must admit on my single profile though there are so many I don't pay as much attention to them as inevitably they usually haven't read my profile!!

PT x

Exactly re your second paragraph. Although won't know if they've read it until we got chatting but generally the winks are from faceless fill in later profiles that do so very little for me.

Agree and understand all of the above but none explain OPs question which I share.

Had one this morning from a delightful lady, I responded with a polite message and some compliments to receive back “thanks for your kind words “.

I’ve no issue with what took place and each to their own but just can’t fathom what was the point of the wink in the first place if they didn’t want to engage in conversation.
