Doing this takes up a large part of the way we have to live our lives. Whether in the workplace, at home, or among our lovers, relatives, friends even accquaintances and occasionally strangers.

A lot of that is perfectly reasonable and acceptable and adds benefit to us and those around us.

Yet, do you have enough of a thinking cap to know the difference between that and those things that work to create a continuous, overiding, oppressive

and unwanted master/servant relationship with you?

You being the servant of course!

This assault sometimes comes at you from places such as your workplace, in your home, via lovers, relations, friends, acquaintances or strangers.

Stay alert and be brave.

'Giving' makes me who I am. I love helping and supporting people, but I back off very quickly if someone takes advantage of my willingness.

I'm bit of a people pleaser by nature but I know when someone starts to take the piss and I will stand up for myself if needed.

I like doing stuff for other people.

I have an innate desire to please.

I get a feeling of satisfaction from seeing others satisfied, content or free from something that was worrying them.

"I'm bit of a people pleaser by nature but I know when someone starts to take the piss and I will stand up for myself if needed. "

The problem with being a pleaser is that some people will take advantage. Once you let them know you're not a doormat, the relationship gets better.

I don't go out of my way to please anyone except those I love. If I can please other people by doing what I would be anyway I'm happy. Pleasing someone is different to helping them, I'd always help if I could

I used to have a please others driver but once I recognised it I worked to reduce the negative impact it had on both me and others. I now have it as a skill rather than it driving my behaviour so much.

There is a big element of that in life sensitivity to others, it's necessary to get along. Whether you set standards too high ("I always") for yourself is another matter.

I’m a people pleaser by nature, sometimes to my own detriment. I do get to a point whereby I say no more but I like knowing I’ve helped someone. X

I think women are trained from childhood to be like this.

I've had a difficult time learning to value myself and not give endlessly, just because it's "nice" and I don't want to be a bitch. Sometimes bitchiness is warranted. And it saves my energy for worthy causes.

To directly answer the OP, I'm very good at pleasing others. When it's appropriate.

Aside from always trying to keep everyone happy, I also exhibit a ghastly tendency to fail at taking care of, or sticking up for myself. I’m firmly in that trap!

Confrontation is not always easy, but the non physical side of how to is a helpful thing to have in the toolbox.
