when I saw a topic about chicken fillets - I was wondering what new perversity it would be. Disappointed its so mundane - perhaps it was the thought of lots of breast meat that was making me salivate - lol

they will probably say that no two birds are alike - some have bigger breasts than others - others are quite small

a Primark shoebox in Leicester

I can spend ages in the meat isle checking the pre-packed stuff to get the right sizes.... steak is another one. One tiny steak and one massive one? what's that all about?

Its the same reason as why they put 3 in bigger packs, same with chops etc. it's the supermarkets way of making the customer buy more

Meant to add 3 when the average family is two adults and two kids

Its cos the 'puter tells them to total the weight so that all the packs are around the same.

Buy them from the butchers, the provenence is better, they Don't cost more and you are keeping a local trade in business.

its down to weight the pack is a certain size they mix 2 different sizes to give you the pack weight 1 big 1 small.

i'd rather pay by weight and get 2 the same size.

any way it's usually cheaper to buy a whole fresh bird and cut it up yourself

2 thighs/legs 2 breasts and a carcase / giblets for soup all for a little bit more than 2 odd size fillets

I wouldn't say the provenance is better as all meet has to be traceable back to farm and quality and price are variables. Some supermarkets sell both cheap and higher quality free range meat. The supermarkets have economy of scale that's all so like for like will often be cheaper.
