I was at a 'gas station' (lol) on Sunday using the air compressor to put pressure in my tyres and behind me pulled up another car which the driver got out and was then circling their car on the phone conversing about something; seemed to be a question in relation to their own car.

They then asked me if I knew what they needed to do for their own car. I then replied that I wasn't sure what pressure they needed and after finishing my own vehicle began looking in the doorways etc for the plaque/sticker that's usually present for doing so.

I then looked on my phone with a quick search and shown the driver their required pressures for said car, tyres etc. I then said ok would you like me to do it for you? To which they said yes please.

So they got the car in position and undone the dust caps i then explained what i was doing and said we get it all ready first as the time runs as soon as you put the money in. I then filled each tyre one by one. Job done thanks very much. I then left them and we went our separate ways.

So have you ever been in similar situations which you feel compelled to give your time and use experience etc to help someone who is in need and what was it?

I think the amount of people who have no idea about absolutely basic car maintenance is quite alarming.

I help out a lot for no reward. Why not I've had it done for me too. I don't see why we shouldn't. Those who don't are sad selfish individuals and don't want to go there.

One thing Doughnut and I will do is help anyone that needs it, there was a lady once in Facebook that needed a bed picking up and she had no money to do so, so we stepped in and picked it up for her, doughnut even put it together for her and made she she was ok.

I've been there too and a firm believer in what goes around comes around. Sainsburys do free air on their forecourts, well ours does and I imagine it's company wide.

I agree it's alarming but I also take the standpoint to not think anything is common knowledge as I don't really like the term. You only know what you're shown or taught.

That is one samaritan there, some may call it going above and beyond the call of duty even.

Yeah they do, I usually use them if I can/remember while I get my nectar points fuel too! but I was nowhere near a sainsbury at the time so for the sake of 20p I'll do what needs be done on route than drive all that way lol.

It doesn't mean I haven't seen inexcusable neglect. I've definitely come to believe over the years that humans are increasingly becoming lazy or apathetic, for whatever reason, if that's the right way to describe it.

Although it's difficult to refrain from doing so, I try not to generalise anyone without knowing the individual circumstances.

leeds

Driving to the east coast with the kids for the day, hit a bit of a traffic jam and a car was parked in the layby with 2 youngish women stood at the back, as the traffic moved up closer I could see the back box of the exhaust was hanging off on the road so I got out and asked if they was ok and needed a hand, quick check of which way the box was mounted on the rubbers and a kick it came off, got a thank you
